Motor Vehicle Tax Funds Distributed County And Decatur To Receive Checks INDIANAPOLIS (UP) — A $7,930,580 chunk of motor vehicle receipts was distribted today to Indiana cities, towns and counties. The distribution of funds made up of state gasoline tax receipts totaled 816,873,585. It represented collections for the July-September quarter. Social Security Tax To Increase Contribution Rates increase January 1 Beginning with January 1, 1957, the contribution rates for social security will be increased due to the addition of disability payments, according to Christian H. W. Luecke, manager of the Fort Wayne. Social Security office. < The improvements made by congress in the old-age and survivors insurance program can all be financed within the framework of the present tax schedule. However, they wanted to keep the pro-
gram self-supporting and the tax payments equitable. Accordingly, due to the addition of disability payments, the tax schedule will have to be raised by *4 of 1% for both the employer and the employee, or a total of *4% and by % of 1% for the self-employed person. This additional and %% is to flew jnto a new disability insurance trust fund, which will be used to carry out the provision of the program on disability. As originally written, the law would require that the next increase would normally occur on January 1,1960, at which time the rate would be for both employer and employee and 3-%% for a self-employed person. Under the amendements beginning with January 1, 1957, the rate for both employers and employees would be 2-%% and for a self-employed
person 3-%%. Then on January 1, 1960, the tax for both the employer and the employee the tax would be raised to 2-%% and the tax of a self-employed person would be raised to 4-H%. Thereafter, the tax will be raised Vk of 1% every 5 years until January 1. 1975, at which time the tax for both employer and employee will be 4U"% and for a self-employed person 6-%%. Three Arrested For Intoxication Three persons appeared in city court Saturday morning after they were arrested by state police on U. S. highway 27 north of Berne on charges of Intoxication. Ned J. McLaughlin of Philadelphia, Pa., was charged with driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He entered a plea of guilty and was fined SSO and costs, sentenced to 10 days in jail and had his license suspended for one year. Pleas of guilty to charges of public intoxication were entered by the two passengers in the car, Wilbur Chapman of Dunkirk and Mabie Reedy of Portland. They were each fined $1 and costs.

Mild Weather To Continue In State Little Chance Os Rainfall Likely By UNITED PRESS Temperatures in the 70s were expected to highlight Indiana weather through the rest of balmy October and at least the first day of November. The weatherman said today in a five-day outlook that temperatures will average 8 to 12 degrees above normal highs of 56 to 63 and normal lows of 36 to 40. •‘Rather mild until turning cooler Friday or Saturday," the outlook said. The immediate prospect was for temperatures cresting at 70 today all around the state, 72 Tuesday from Lake Michigan to the Ohio River, and "mild” readings Wednesday. The chances of moderate to heavy rain were slight. The weatherman said rainfall will average one-tenth to two-tenths of an inch as showers Thursday or Friday. ' High temperatures Sunday ranged from 65 at Lafayette to 70 at Evansville. Lows this morning ranged from 44 at Lafayette to 47 at South Bend and Evansville. The low tonight will range from 44 to 48. Indianapolis Man Is Killed By Revolver INDIANAPOLI W — Joseph Cegelis, 30, Indianapolis, was killed Sunday when a revolver he was carrying discharged, apparentlj by accident. Cagelis’ brother-in-law, Delmer Hargis, 36, Bainbridge, and Arthur C. Judge, 30, Indianapolis, a friend, told authorities Cegelis went to a dining room cabinet to get the gun, which Judge said belonged to him.
