MRS. WILLIAM NOLL HOSTESS TO SOCIETY The Womeja’s Missionary Society of the Pleasant Mills Baptist church met recently in regular session, at the home of Mrs. William Noll. In the absence of the president, the devotions were conducted by the vice-president, Mrs. Paul McCullough. Mrs. Richard Young gave the lesson. Refreshments were served by the hostess, who was assisted by Mrs. Richard Young. MERRY MATRONS HAVE HALLOWEEN PARTY The Merry Matrons home demonstration club met recently at the home of Mrs. Otto Boeger, for their Halloween party. The meeting was opened by Mrs. Ed Gerbers, by having the group repeat the club creed. Mrs. Delmar Thieme gave the history of the song jot the month, “The Old Oaken Bucket." Mrs. Art Krueekeberg led devotions, followed by reciting the club collect. The health and safety lesson, entitled "Farm Water Supply —- Friend or Enemy” was presented by Mrs. Boerger. Roll call was answered with a rainy day pastime, Mrs. Walter Thieme received the attendance prise and Mrs. Louise Kruecekberg was awarded the prize for the most unusual costume. Mrs. Glen Lehman and Mrs Art Krueckeberg were in charge of the silent auction. Refreshments were served by the hostess to 12 members and two guests. She was msVJ’.W. slated during the evening by Mrs. Art Krueckeberg and Mrs. Erwin Fuelling. CALVARY CHURCH W.B.W.S. HAS OCTOBER MEETING The W.S.W.S. of the Calvary held their meeting Friday evening of last week. The meeting was opened with singing “Beautiful Garden of Prayer.” Lesson subject for the evening was “Sent to serve those on the move," and was presented by Mrs. Orie Drake. Nine members, three guests, and five children were present for the meeting. The Halloween theme was carried out in the decorations, by the hostesses, Mrs. Clara Hindenlang and Mrs. Mildred Swygart. The Adams County Home Demonstration 1 Chorus will meet Monday evening at 7:30 o'clock in the Monroe Farm Bureau Co-op building. Mrs. James Burk will entertain the Psi lota Xi honorary group Monday evening at 7:30 o’clock. The Psi lota XI inspection dinner will be held Tuesday evening at 6:30 o'clock at the Masonic hall. The inspectress, Mrs. Helen Ecoff, of Fortville, will meet with the officers in the lounge of the lodge prior to the dinner. The Decatur Music House has donated the use of an organ, and dinner music will be provided by Mrs. Ferris Bower. \ The Ladies Shakespeare club will meet at the public library, Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Three Students Die In Dormitory Fire Hint At Arson In U. Os Idaho Fire MOSCOW. Idaho, (UP) — Three University of Idaho students died today in a dormitory tire. Firemen said the fire may have been set by a firebug. Officials withheld names of the victims pending notification of kin'’ It was'fhe fourth dormitory blaze withjn a week on the campus. Fire chief Carl Smith said the previous fires, which caused about $3,00( damage, had been set. “This one stacks up with tW rest of them." said Smith. The fire broke out about 2:15 a.m. in the downstairs lounge of Galt hall, a new four-story men’s dormitory. Most of the dormitory residents fled outdoors into near-freezing weather. The victims were trapped on the upper floor. v Four other students narrowly escaped death. | At the Adams county memorial hospital: Clyde and Aldine Frauhiger Clayton of Convoy, 0., are the parents of a baby girl, born Thursday at 6:25 p.m., weighing seven pounds, and one ounce. • A baby girl was born this morning at 8:16 o’clock, to Leßoy and Esther Sommer Blebersteln of route 2. Spiritual Rally Os Young Catholics Area Observance Os National Week About 2.000 young persons of high school age and over from Adams. Allen, Whitley, Wells and Huntington counties will attend a spiritual rally to be held Monday, Oct. 29, at 7:30 p. m. in the auditorium of Central Catholic high school at Fort Wayne. The event is being planned by the student spiritual council of Huntington, Decatur and Central Catholic high schools as an area observance of national Catholic youth week, Oct. 28 to Nov. 4. The student council officers have issued an invitation to all high school students of the five counties which comprise the Fort Wayne deanery. A feature of the program will be a “Living Rosary” presentation in which all attending groups will participate by chosen representatives. Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament will be administered by the Rev. Eugene Zimmerman, diocesan director of youth. Deacon will be the Rev. Robert Contant of Decatur, and subdeacon will be the Rev. Charles Ueber of Huntington. The Rev. Arthur MacDonald, .deanery director of youth, will be -master of ceremonies. The Rev. Daniel Peil, assistant at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception, will deliver an address on the theme of national Catholic youth week, "Trust in Youth. Joseph Woods, director of music at Central Catholic high school, will be an. charge of a musical program. National youth Communion Sunday. Oct. 28, will be observed in all Catholic parishes. ’ A communion breakfast will be held * for members of the senior C. Y. O. and C. Y. A. at St. Vincent Villa in Fort Wayne. Paul Butler, national Democratic chairman, will be main speaker. Reservations must be in by Oct. 24. A dance for the Catholic young people of Adams, Allen, Wells, Whitley and Huntington counties will be from 8:30 to 11:30 p. m. at St. Joseph hall, Hessen Cassel, Sunday, Oct. 28. On Tuesday, Oct. 30, a Halloween party for Catholic youth is scheduled to take place at St. Theresa hall In Waynedale. A 900-voice children’s choir will sing for a pontifical mass at the Cathedral |n Fort Wayne at 10:30 a. m. Nov. 1. The choir will be directed by John Yonkman, organist and choir director of the Cathedral. Fifth to eighth grade students from Catholic grade schools in the Fort Wayne deanery will comprise the choir. The week's activities will end Sunday, Nov. 4, with a convention ,of the diocesan C.Y.0.-C.Y.A. at St. Joseph parish in Hammond. Miss Janet Everhart, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Everhart of Decatur, has been selected a member of the women’s glee club at Earlham college at Richmond. 1 Lowell Michaels, a 1956 graduate of Adams Central high school, started classes at DeVry Technical Institute at Chicago this week. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Michaels of near Monroe. Winston Rawley, of 621 Winchester street, was admitted to the Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne earlier this week tor, observation. His room number is 464. The Rev. Lawrence Norris, the Rev. Virgil Sexton, Lloyd Cowens and Mayor Robert Cole spent Thursday at Lake Wawasee. They reported a good catch of pike and bass. The condition of Mrs. J.C. Sutton, Sr., is reported to be serious. Mrs. Sutton is a patient at Adams county memorial hospital. Nixon neared the end today of his second transcontinental campaign trip with the hope of two days rest before starting his third and final pre-election swinx. Adams County Soybean Festival Beauty Queen Contest Thursday, October 26, 1966, 3:00 P.M. at the Decatur Youth and Community Center Contestants will be judged on beauty, appearance, poise and talent. Five finalists will be selected by the judges. Each finalist will receive a diamond wrist watch and compete for the title of Soybean Queen in the finals, to take place at the Fish Fry that evening.
