NORMA agler to marry WILLARD LANOIB OCT. 27 Mr. and Mrs. Guy Agler, ti()6 Patterson street, have announced the engagement and approaching marriage of their youngest daughter, Norma Jean, to Willard E. Landis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl S. Landis of route 1, Monroe. The marriage will be solemnised in the sanctuary of the Church of God, Saturday, October 27, with the Rev. W. H. Kirkpatrick officiating. Miss Agler is a graduate of Decatur high school, and is employed at the First State Bank in Decatur. Her fiance Is a graduate of Kirkland high school and is employed by International Harvester in Fort Wayne.

BUCKLEY CLAIMS BRIDE RECENTLY IN CHICAGO RITES Announcement has been made of the recent marriage of Miss Marjorie Ann Ruder and George Richard Buckley, son of Mr. and Mrs. George J, Buckley, of Homestead 37. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Ruder of Chicago. Only the immediate families attended the ceremony, 'which was held in Chicago. Foremdly employed at WANE in Fort Wayne, as a staff announcer. the bridegroom is employed by WAA_f in Chicago. He was graduated from Decatur high school, served with the armed forces, and attended Indiana University. The couple is residing in Chicago. BARBARA FIECHTER SPEAKS AT CENTRAL P.T.A. MEETING Miss Barbara Fiechter was the speaker at the recent meeting of the Adams Central P.T.A. Her topic was “Journalism,” and she told of the recent Journalism institute at Indiana University. Seventy-five members attended the Monday evening meeting, which was opened with devotions, led by Rev. Garl Shaw of the Pleasant Valley Church. Entertainment for the evening was provided by Inas and Marsha Merriman, and Chloe and Wanda Neuensch wander. Demonstrations on “Audio Visual Opportunities in Education,” were then introduced by Naomi Griffiths, Eloise Leistner, Martha Habegger, Imogene Beihoid, Martin Watson and Douglas Master. The meeting was then adjourned and refreshments were served by the committee in charge. bECATUR GARDEN CLUB HAS OCTOBER MEETING The Decatur Garden club held their October meeting recently at the home of Mrs. Hersel Nash. Assisting hostess was Mrs. Hubert Zerkel, Sr. Mrs. Amos Yoder, president, called the meeting to order. The club collect was read in unison and also the verse of the month, followed by roll call, answered by “a tree shrub I will plant this fall.” Mrs. Yoder extended an invitation to the club to attend the Adams county federation of clubs meeting, to be held at the "public library Friday evening. The club voted to give a donation to the Community Fund. . 4 The group was reminded of the northwest dirstrict meeting, November 1, at Auburn, and urged to attend. Any member planning to attend, is asked to contact Mrs. G. Remy Bieriy no later than Sat-
urday, October 20. Mrs. Zerkel presented the lesson, entitled “Gardening — The Way of Life.” During.the social hour, the hostesses served lovely refreshments. The door prize was won by Mrs. Martin Zimmerman. MISSIONARY SOCIETY MEETS | AT BAPTIST CHURCH The Women's Missionary society df the First , Baptist church met recently at the church. Mrs. Bryce Daniels, president, called the meeting to order. Mrs. Warw-n Lehman, devotional chairman, led the group in singing “Great-iw Thy Faithfulness.” She then pointedout the meaning of faithfulness and closed the devotions with in ; dividual prayers offered by several women present. The secretary’s and treasurer’s reports were read and accepted. ißoll call was answered by seventeen members present. Guests included Mrs. Joseph Garrett and Mrs. Rinear Funk of Liberty Center. Mrs. Daniels read a letter received from Rev. and Mrs. Robert Millef. missionaries to Holland returning home this month. A mission box is to be filled and prepared for mailing to Mrs. MacAlhaney, an Indian missionary in Oklahoma, at the next meeting. It was decided that because of the success of the “white cross” night held last month, several such projects would be Included in the society’s missionary program throughout the year. Baptist young men from the Decatur church, who are in the armed forces, will receive Christmas boxes again this year* — Mrs. Garrett, home mission interpreter, then gave,, an interesting talk on Baptist work among the Spanish-speaking people in this country. This work contacts both Cuban and Mexican nationalities. American Baptists have established over 100 churches for these people and many Christian centers are available for their use. Many of these churches are now self- supporting. Mrs. Garrett closed this portion of the program by a question and answer period. The meeting was closed by praying the Mizpah benediction. Mrs. Noble Reynolds, Mrs. Donald Sliger and Miss Jesse Winnes served delicious refreshments. The next meeting will be on Nov. 8. at which time the love gift, boxes will also be opened. The P.T.A. is now in the process of conducting a drive for 100% membership of parents whose children attend Northwest school. Parents are urged to join this parent — teacher organization as soon as possible, so that a list of charter members can be read at the next meeting. Dues are 50 cents a year for each member, aud this' money, along with a note to the homeroom teacher of the child in school, will, secure membership. The meetings will be held the second Thursday of each month. The Northwest P.T.A. is combining efforts with the Lincoln P.T.A. Jn sponsoring tht annual fall festival, and numerous other activities are planned throughout the school year. At 10:30 (C.D.T.) the local chapter joined with all the other Delta Theta Tau chapters all over the nation, for the Founders Day ritual. At the dose of the meeting, light refreshments were served, by the hostess. The next meeting will be held Tuesday evening at 8 o'clock, at the Elks home. EVENING CIRCLE II MEETS WITH MRS. HELEN HOWELL Evening Circle II of the Methodist church met in the home of Mrs. Helen Howell Tuesday evening for their regular October meeting. Several recordings of religious songs were played for the opening, after which the meeting was turned over to Mrs. Katharyne Nelson who presented the devotions, using the "Upper Room” for her topic. She also presented the lesson which was a condensation of the book by Mary Pickford “Why not try God.” During the business meeting which was conducted by the chairman. Mrs. Howell, plans were discussed for assisting at the annual bazaar and New England dinner which will be held November 14 the Methodist eparchy Mf>s tWcille Chake and Mrs. Harriet Mills were appointed to take care of the arrangements. Following the business meeting, delicious refreshments were served by the hostess, assisted by Mrs. Lois Kitchen. CHURCH OF GOD SOCIETY ~ HAS RECENT MEETING The Church of God Missionary society met in the fellowship basement for a recent meeting. The meeting was opened by repeating the pledge. Nellie Morrison was in charge of devotions which were on the "Bible.” Edna Kirkpatrick, program leader. presented an interesting progratn by showing slides of the mission work in the United States. The Altar and Rosary society of the St. Rose Catholic church at Monrovbille, is sponsoring a chicken and ham dinner in the school basement, this Sunday. Serving time will be from 11:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., adults. 31, and children 50 cents. Auto Undamaged In Accident Tuesday A car driven by Jerry Lee Beard, 16, of Monroe route one, went out of control Tuesday at about 11:25 p.m. when the left rear tire blew out on U. S. highway 27 south of Decatur. The car swerved across the road, over a ditch and through a fence, finally coming to a stop in a field. There was no damage to the car and about 150 damage to the fence. Deputy sheriff Roger Singleton and trooper Gene Rash investigated.
