CATHERINE HABEGGER IS BRIDE OF WILLIAM SMITH The Rev. 0. A. Krehbiel performed the double ring ceremony w'hich united in marriage Miss Catherine Habegger and Willitm Mac Smith. Their rows were exchanged Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the First Mennonite church in Berne, before a large gathering of friends and relatives. Palms, ferns, and baskets of chrysanthelnums, mums, and fall leaves created 11 backround for the exchanging of the vows. The pews were marked with white satin bows and white carnations. Parents of the couple are Mrs. Savilia Hahegger of route 2, Decatur, and Mr. and Mrs. Godfrey Smith of Geneva. Mrs. Leland Neuen presented a program of wedding music as the guests assembled. Selections included "The Old Refrain." “Angels Serenade.” “Bless This House,” “Venetian Love Song,” “I Love You Truly,” and “Liebestraum.” Byron Fox. cousin of the bride, sang “Because,". “God Gave Me You,” and at the close of the ceremony, “The Lord’s Prayer.” Given in marriage by her brother, Paul Ilabegger. the bride appeared in a gown of white nylon net trimmed with chantilly lace. with permanent pleats in tulle over white bridal satin. Small satin covered gown, and she wore white laee mits, which formed points over her hands. A fingertip veil of imported illusion fell from a half hat of lace. She carried an arrangement of white chysanthemums and mums. Miss Sara Belle Habegger attended ner sister as maid of honor, and bridesmaids were Miss Berdella Alt and Miss Caro Moser. They wore ballerina length gowns of chrystallette, in shades of mint green, olive green, and dark green, respectively. They each wore large picture hats to match their gowns, white mits, and carried arrangements of rust colored mums. The groom's attendants were Harvey Smith. Tilman Smith and Paul Habegger. Ushers were Chester Habegger, brother of the bride, Tom Schaadt, brother-in-law of the bride, and Harold and Walter Smith, brothers of the bridegroom. The bride's mother wore a dark green and black flowered dress and black accessories, and Mrs. Smith attended her son’s wedding in a black dress with black and accessories. Both had corsages of red I’oa.ps. The couple was honored at a reception held in the church basement immediately following the ceremony. Mrs. Tom Schaadt, sister of the bride, cut the cake and Miss Eldonna Habegger; another sister of the bride, poured the punch. Alvin Habegger presided at the guest book. Other servers included Miss Sandra Striker. Miss Joyce Lehman. Miss Marjorie Beeher and Mrs. Marvin Taylor. The green and white color scheme was carried in the reception room. Approximately 175 guests attended the reception. When the newly-weds left for a wedding trip of unannounced des-
tination, Mrs. Smith was wearing a charcoal wool suit with black accessories. Upon thejr return, they will reside An their newly furnished home on route 4, Decatur. Mrs. Smith attended Adams Central high school, and is employed at Smith Bros. Furniture store in Berne. A graduate of Geneva high school, her husband is employed as a mason for :Relff Construction in Bluffton. D.A.V. AUXILIARY HAS BUSINESS MEETING D.A.V. auxiliary held their regular meeting recently at the D.A.V. hall. During the meeting plans were made for the bake and rummage sale to be conducted Saturday, and also for the membership drive to be held next Monday. Oct. 25 is the next social meeting of the group, and a .family Halloween party is planned for October 26, Refreshments were served at the close of the meeting. Gift of candy, cigarettes, gum and mints were given to each patient in the hospital, all furnished by DAV auxiliary unit 91. The group also visited with Mrs. Lizzy Able who is a patient there. METHODIST CHURCH W.S.C.S. TO OBSERVE “QUIET DAY” The Fort Wayne district Woman’s Society Christian Service will observe "quet day" in the Monson Chapel church near Waynerfale, Friday beginning at 10 a.m. “Christian Progress!' will be the theme, and meditation during the morning session will be offered by Mrs. Frank Closson of Waynedale. Mrs. John Dicken of Hamilton. Mrs. John Hunt of Butler,, and Mrs. Billy Springfield of Pleasant Mills. Luncheon will be served at noon by the host church. Evangelical and Reformed church will have an all day meeting in the church basement this Thursday. The leader will be Mrs. Joe Zimmerman, and Mrs. Sylvan Strahm will be hostess. Guests are invited to attend. Members are reminded that the blue and yellow contest bags are to be in at this meeting. The Welcome Wagon club meeting originally scheduled for tonight has been postponed until next Monday evening. The Raibow fdf Girls will meet Thursday at 6:45 p.m. at - the Masonic hall. Adams county federation of clubs will have their opening meeting of the new club season, Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the north room of the public library. Mrs. Albert Beineke will be the principal speaker, speaking on her recent trip abroad. All members and guests are welcome to attend this meeting. — The Catholic Ladles of Columi bia will have a pot luck supper at the C. L. of C. hall, Tuesday evening at 6:3c o'clock. So Cha Rea Will have a dessert bridge Thursday evening at 7:30 o’clock, at the home of Mrs. Dick Deininger. The Pocahontas lodge will have a meeting at the Red Men’s hall Tuesday evening at 8 o’clock. All members are urged to be present. The Friendship Village Home Demonstration club will meet Thursday afternoon at 1 o’clock at the Kimsey school. - The Emmaus Guild of the Zion Lutheran church will hold their regular meeting Wednesday at 8 o’clock at the parish hail. There will be a topic study with a short business meeting and a social evening to follow. All the ladies of the ' church are invited to attend. Mrs. W.R. Stanley visited last week with her sister, ’Mrs. W.G. Mason, and other relatives, in Gettysburg and Hanover, Pa. Mi's. Mason will celebrate her 85th birthday the 29th of this month. Mrs. Carl Gerber and son David accompanied Miss Sara Gerber to Tiffin, O. yesterday, where she is enrolled as a sophomore at Heidell»erg College. Enroute home, Mrs. Gerber and David will visit with relatives in Columbus, O. Robert Voglewede and his son Robert Jr., of Detroit. Mich., spent th eweek-eud with Mrs. J. C. Voglewede. Miss Fan Hite returned to Louisville, Ky., via plane, after spending several days visiting with her sister, Miss Madge Hite and other relatives. Corn Demonstration Scheduled Wednesday M. O. Pence, extension agronomist, will be the discussion leader at the Adams county corn variety demonstration meeting scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday morning,’ announces Leo N. Seltenright. county agricultural agent. The meeting will be held at the corn variety plot located on the Berne school farm at the northwest edge of Berne. The plot has been In charge of Eugene Sprunger, BerneFrench vocational agriculture teacher and the Berne-French vorational agriculture department. At the plot, Adams county farmers will be shown 32 different hybrid corn varieties. They will be given the yield of each variety tnd can see standabillty and other characteristics of the, corn. Pence will also discuss yield performances of the hybrids in the other variety plot trails.

State Traffic Toll Goes Over 900 Mark At Least 12 Deaths Reported In State By UNITED PRESS At least 12 traffic deaths in Indiana during the weekend shot the* 1956 toll above 900. Three persons were killed in a two-car smashup and two persons were killed in a one-car accident. Killed near Carbondale on U.„S. 41 were William Stites, 33. Chicago; Bobby Martin, 24, Attica, and his wife, Roberta, 27. State police said Stites passed on a hill and hit the Martin car head-on. Clifford Moye, Jr., 28, and John Thornton, 24, both of New Albany, were killed Sunday when a car in which they were riding left an Ind. 11l curve near Bridgeport and smashed into a tree. Thaddls Allen Radclifft, 74, Washington, was killed when a train hit his pickup truck at a Washington crossing. George Cornett, 69, Brownsburg, was killed when be suffered a heart attack and his car hit a bridge near Brownsburg, state police said. Donald Craig, 27, Marion, was killed when his car smashed into a corn picker on Ind. 37 near Marion. A car crashed into a ditch near Elkhart, killing Clinton Colestine, 32, Elkhart. Glen Bushong, 28. Mulberry, waa killed when his motorcycle ran off U. S. 52 bypass at Lafayette. Charles E. Gaylord, 79, Lafayette, was hit and killed by a car as he walked across U. S. 52 near Lafayette. Mrs. Mary H. Hildy, 68, Hammond. was killed Saturday in a twb-autb crash at Ind. 13 and Ind. 114 west of North Manchester, while she was riding in a car driven by her husband, Rex L. Hidy, 67, long time former editor of the Hammond Times.
Kills Children And Attempts Suicide Upset Because Son Quit AF Academy ROCKFORD. 111. (UP) — A mother, upset because het son quit the U. 8. air force academy, was in critical condition today after killing her son and daughter and attempting suicide. Mrs. Ralph Middleton, 45, swallowed lye and carbolic acid Saturday after shooting her son. Thomas, 18, and her daughter, Judy, 12, as they lay in their beds. State’s Atty. Robert R. Canfield said he would seekmurderwarrants today - — — The double murder and suicide attempt was discovered by the father when he came home from work at noon Saturday. Finding the house silent, he went upstairs and found the bodies of his son and daughter. They apparently had been shot with a target rifle as they slept. Middleton found his wife in agony in the basement, She was tak en to Rockford memorial hospital. The Rev. Willard Giese said Mrs Middleton was a "brilliant’’ woman whose mind apparently cracked when her son gave up his appointment to the air force academy. "He had been an honor student at high school and an athlete." Giese said. "The appointment to the academy was a tremendous op portunity, his mother thought. "But when Thomas decided the air force Was not for him, she thought be had failed and that she. too, had somehow failed."

A seven pound daughter was born Sunday at 1:47 p.m. to Charles E. and Virginia Miller Butler, of 222 North Fourth street.
