Our Preacher Says: To mak* wrens choices is morally fatal, for wrong moral choices constitute sin. “Sin." said Jerany Taylor, “that startles a man is the first step; then it becomes pleasing. then easy, then delightful, then frequent and habituni. The man is importunate, then obstinate. then resolves never to repent, and then is dammed.”

Creamed Comments on the Sunday School IGod's Command to Teach. Deuteronomy 6:125, for Sunday. October 21.—The Rev. I). Carl Yoder. Moses has reached tlf> end and gives his parting’ words to the IsraeltUes. He says nothing of himself and his achievements, but stresses the fact of God whom all need to revere devotedly. They are to have open hearts and minds that will allow God’s love to come in. So important is this truth that it needs to be written out and carried on the body, and more than this, it is to be sacredly taught to the children of all times. V 1. “Now' these are the commandments. the statutes and the judgments which the Lord your God commanded to teach you that ye might do them in the land whither ye go to possess it.” Moses, who forty years before had delivered to Israel the Ten Commandments. and. during the years, presented other teachings, now as he comes to the end of his leadership, remainds God’s chosen people to femember and do them. Herejs a good example fit parents giving good advice in their closing days — remember and do what God has revealed. V. 2. “That tnou mightest fear the Lord thy God to keep and his statutes and commandments which 1 commanded thee and thy aon and thy son’s son all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged.." The w-ord “fear” means reverence and respect; to thus live, produces a well-ordered life, which as a rule means a longer life. V. 3. “Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe to do it, that it may lie well with thee and that ye may increase mightily as the Lord God of your fathers has promised three, in the h»mt that floweth with milk and honey." The word ‘ hear”-ie-to listen well and to live well. Again the promise of prosperity is the purpose of God expressed in human lives. Vs. 4. 5. “Hear, O Israel. The Lord our God is one Lord: and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, with all thy soul and with all thy might." Love j of God is basic in all God’s commandment. adding “with all thy nnnd,” iuteUeet. wtti aad emotion art- included Jn the love, otrngn for his Eord. V. 6. "And these words which I command you this day shall be in your heart?’ The heart is the vital physical organ, the fountain head of life. So, at the fountain of our soul, the spiritual life imbibes the thoughts and the spirit of God’s w-ord, V. 7. “And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children and shall talk of them when thou sittest in thy house, and when thou walkest by the way and when thou Rest down and when thou riseth up.” Here is outlined the ideal Christian program for the home. I The failure of parents to give prac-J tical Christian teaching is seen in juvenile deliquency and in I crime. Vs. jB, 9. ’And thou shalt bind ! them as a sign on thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes ad thou shalt write them on the posts of thine house and on thy gates." The heathen j had the custom of thus presenting their religion. God’s children { are not to be outdone in Christian ! witnessig. V. 2(r. “Ad when thy son aeketh j of thee in time to come, saying, I

what- mean these testimonies and statutes and the judgments which the Ix>rd thy God hath commanded you?’’ Thejiecret of good teaching is to arouse the inquiring minds to ask good questions V. 21. “Then thou ehalt say unto thy son. We were Pharoah'* bondmen in Egypt, and the Lord brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand.” The story of Israel’s deliverance served to give them a faith in God, the Deliverer of all time. This teaching teaches to the present day. The same thought is expressed in the next two verses because of its great importance. Faithful obedience to God astyuuag a Iwwreniy deward. V. 24. "And theH.ord commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear the Lord our God. for our good always, that he might preserve us alive as it is this day.” Whatever may happen is for our good, although we may not set It thus at the tme. Herein lies the right eousness of God as taught in the next verse. Statistians of the Library of Congress have estimated the cost of World War 11 to be four trillion dollars ($4,000,000,000,000), about $1,700 for every living person on the earth, and 40,000,000 casualties. The Salvation Army is planning for new headquarters in Chicago. A modern eight-story building will occupy the old site of Evangeline Residence and will cost approximately $1,250,000. W'ork on the headquarters is expected to be completed by fall of this year, Stanley Tam, owner of a smelter at Lima. Ohio, that does a $200,-000-a-year business, told the annual meeting of the Christian and Missionary Alliance that he will turn all of its future profits over to neligfqiis work. ~ „ Senator William Langer has introduced legislation in Congress to require all Federal penal and correctional institutions to “main- ; tain a Supply of Bibles and religious literature to be furnished to ! any federal prisoner at his re-j-quest.” —. • In Jerusalem there is a Bibical - Zoo in which are assembled 400 an hn a Is, birds, _and reptiles. - many lof which are mentioned in the pages of the Bible. Here is the raven that fed Elijah, the lion that Samson smote, even the dove which Noah sent from the Ark. What is the great commandment as found in this lesson? j. 5. What, as taught in this lesson, makes an ideal Christian home? Clericus says: “When we yield ourselves to Christ and become I one with him. his purity, righteousness and spiritual power come into our life to make obedience to God’s laws possible. When a man is In Christ he is more than an obedient servant — he is a new creature." Lesson prayer: We are grateful for the fundamental moral laws as a basis for moral living. We are grateful that the Giver of the moral law is the Giver of a life of righteousness. We are grateful that back of the moral law is a God of love who seeks us to become his’ obedient children. Grant that we may be so faithful that •Jfa promised heavenly reward may be realized. There will always be a frontier where there is an open mind and a willing hard. — Kettering. The reason birds can fly and we can’t is simply that they have . perfect faith, for to have faith |to‘ to have wings. —- Sir James ■ Barrie.
