Demand Dr. Morgan < Be Fired From Job Committee Urges , Craig Take Action 1 WESTVILLE, Ind. (UP) — The < five-member visiting committee of, ] Norman M. Beatty hospital de- < manded today that Dr. Margaret ] Morgan be fired as Indiana mental health commissioner and that ' Dr. W. R. Van Den Bosch’s resignation as Beatty superintendent , be rejected. The committee is a semi-official group appointed by the governor. ‘ It includes a surgeon, a house- 1 wife, a circuit judge, a rabbi and 1 a businessman. < Members met in a special session Sunday night, a day after 1 Van Den Bosch submitted his 1 resignation because of a "lack of faith in my administration." On ( Friday, Dr. Morgan and Craig assigned control of the maximum < security division of the hospital to the state prison warden and eriticized Van Den Bosch's handling ( of insane criminals sent to Beatty ’ from the nearby prison. The committee drafted a letter to Craig which said Dr. Morgan 1 "should be dismissed forthwith 1 not only because of her inability ‘ to properly function as the head ‘ of the division of mental health 1 but also for the further reason that she does not have the proper II qualifications as provided by law.” The letter also asked that . Van Den Bosch's resignation “not Le accepted” and that "in the inter- ( est of safety and in compliance with at least the spirit of the law” the custody and control of the . maximum security division be < “transferred oack from the department of correction to the au- ] perintendent of the hospital.". Van Den Bosch declined com- ! ment on the demand for Df. . Morgan’s dismissal and rejection < of his resignation. On the matter of restoring control of the superintendent, he said that "although I have no quarrel with anyone that more security is needed,” he felt Beatty Is a "mental hospital - and not a penal institution” and should be treated as such. Members of the committee are Dr. E. S. Jones, Hammond; William Osborn, Culver; Mrs. Perry Brouwer, Shipshewana; Judge Douglas Elwood, Fowler, and Rabbi Albert Shulman, South Bend. At Indianapolis, Governor Craig’s aides sqid he was not in his office and was unavailable for comment. But Mrs. Helen Payton, the governor's, secretary, said the letter from the visiting committee had not yet reached Craig’s office. Dr. Morgan said she did not know until informed by the Unit- ' ed Press that such a letter had, been mailed. "I don’t think there’s anything I want to say about it now," she
