his whirlwind campaign tour. nr. Malcolm C. TodtL Long Beach, Calif., staff • physician on Nixon’s campaign swing, told newsmen the vice president should be able to continue his grueling routine unless complies tions set in. “If he were a private patient I would advise him to stay In bed for ope or two days,” Todd said “But Nixon ia insistent on carrying out this job.” The "job” involves at least 21 more scheduled speeches in 19 states during the next nine days, Nixon croaked through a speech in Salt Lake City Monday night but was in obvious discomfort as he directly accused Democratic presidential nominee Adlai Stev enson of carbon copying President Truman’s "Fair Deal” poll cies. The vice president was running a temperature one degree above normal (99.6) before the speech and Todd said he was "flushed and perspiring” as he was rushed back to his hotel. The doctor said he bad suggested Nixon not make his Salt Lake City talk Monday night but that the vice president was "insistent.’ When he finished. Todd put Nixon to bed immediately in his hotel room after administering doses of antibiotics and achromy zln, a new drug. Asked if Nixon could finish his arduous schedule — which called for speeches at Oklahoma City. Okla., and Houston, Tex., today— Todd replied "I’m not in a position to state at tihs time.”' But. he said, “we’ll take off on schedule." Todd admitted under questioning that “fatigue"- from the bachbreaking schedule was a factor in the illness.

JIM John Kasper Nabbed On Sedition Charge Segregationist Is Nabbed In Tennessee CLINTON. Tenn. (UP) — John Kasper, fiery young segregationist, was nabbed in a foot chase Mondtfy night and brought to this scene of jchool integration riots to face a sedition charge. The 50-year-old Washington. D.C. white citizens council leader, his ’rumbling followers dispersed by threats of arrest, was to be arraigned today before criminal court Judge D.,L. Hutson. Kasper, already under a 12rnonth sentence, for contempt of federal court, was charged with seditiously inciting residents and visitors to riot here in protest xgainst integration of the Clinton high school. “The charge of sedition is ridiculous because we are simply fighting for the rights guaranteed to every American under the constitution," Kasper said later; Sheriff Glad Woodward and deputies spotted Kasper when he showed up at nearby Oak Ridge, Tenn., to “protest the appearance of Gov. Frank Clement” at a Democratic district campaign rally. By coincidence an Anderson county grand jury a few hours before had returned an indictment charging Kasper with inciting riots which finally were quelled by national guardsmen armetj with bayonets. '< The scene of the rally was* a huge parking lot in front of a shopping center. When Kasper saw Woodward approaching he broke into a brokenfield run among parked cars. Constable George Campbell finally caught Kasper by the coattails and held Kasper despite the fugitive's flailing fists, until others arrived. They subdued Kasper and took him to the Clinton jail, handcuffed. The 35 white citizens council recruits trailed the officers to Clinton and staged a brief demonstration at the jail. They finally were dispersed. Kasper was almost immediately freed under a 92,000 bond in addition to his federal appeal bond of SIO,OOO.
