(UP) - A four engine Navy Constellation carrying 18 crewmen ditched in the Pacific Ocean, 100 miles south of Guam Monday, but the men were rescued with no major injuries. Two of the crewmen suffered minor injuries in the crash and were flown to Agana, Guam for treatment, the navy said. The other 16 were taken by surface craft and returned to the Pacific island. The plane, attached to early airborne warning squadron three, was returning to Guam from a mission 800 miles to the south when one engine developed trouble. Six minutes later a second engine went out, and the pilot reported the plane was heading for the water. After the plane ditched, the crewmen took to two life rafts in calm seas and fired while rescue planes and surface craft rushed to the scene. The navy said the downed plane was piloted by Lt. Cmdr. J.B. Nabors Jr., whose family is on Guam. The two slightly Injured men were identified at AT3 T.S. Bodek(hometown unavailable) ajid AT2 B.W. Holladay Lebanon, Tenn. FIVE MEN DIE - » when we looked up, we saw this large ball of flame heading for the earth,” they said. “The plane dug a hole about five to six feet deep about 100 yards from our house.” The plane crashed at 5:45 p.m. EDT. It hurled pieces of wreckage for yards around. One flying fragment set fire to an unoccupied farmhouse belonging to Robert Keough, destroying it in a matter of minutes. Other fragments destroyed two barns, cut telephone lines between Madera and Fresno, hit a car and bus on busy U.S. highway 99, and piled up on the Southern Pacific main line tracks, delaying the •Oakland-bound San Joaquin daylight for 2ff minutes. STEVENSON IN (Continned from Page One) national committee, said that Democratic candidates “long have resented the fact that Republicans have been able to effectively clean up the mess in Washington.” Stevenson and his staff talked over the Hiss problem at length before his hews conference. When the question came up at the conference he phrased his words deliberately. He recalled that when his views on Hiss were asked in the 1952
