amendments. Christian H. W. Lttecke. manager of the Ft. : Wayne office, explained today. Beginning with January 1. 1951, payments may be made to disabled children of a worker who has applied for his benefits or has died, and who are over age 18 provided they were under a total disability since before they reached age 18. Some of these. Luecke said, would merely continue to receive the same payments they were receiving before they reached age )8. Others, who were not eligible for payment* before they reached age 18. could now receive disability payments, provided they were receiving at least half of, their support from the worker, when they applied sos, benefit*. or. when the, worker died?, and, of course, provided they were disabled. Any mother of such child, even one who had not, reached the retirement age given in the law, would receiwa payments if she had such a child in her care. This means both mother and child would receive payments. Like the new disability Insurance payments to disabled workers age 50, this must be referred to the state vocational rehabilitation office. so as to restore them to health and teach them some useful occupation. They must accept such services, Luecke ' «Hd. "FW ttfdH information see your

Regular Attendance Urged On Students Statement Given By Attendance Officer Mrs, Mildred Foley, attendance officer for Adams county schools, issued today her annual statement requesting the cooperation of parents in seeing that children attend school regularly. Mrs. Foley pointed out, “Education is free so why should parents neglect to send their child to school* An education is one thing a parent can give a child that will always pay big dividends, not only for the parent but also for the child.” She continued, “Since most children who drop out of school and most children who have record* of misconduct or who turn out to be Juvenile delinquents usually have an earlier record of unsatisfactory school attendance, it is my belief that school absenteeism is a barometer by which we mayj be warned of more serious thingsfio come. “Most children who get classified as delinquents come froim ■homes that have failed,” she sum ed. "It is their parents who are delinquent-either in being too poor to care for the child, or being mentally or morally deficient or having criminal tendencies themselves. Parents fail by nAiect, ignorance and unwillingness or inability to direct thplr chydreh.” —_ L_ * Mrs. Foley says, "With Special effort on my part, I hope to form a close liaison between the child, home and the school and help save the child from further trouble." The attendance officer concluded by stating that every child between the ages of seven and 16 must attend school and any parent who willfully neglects to eend his child to school is liable to a fine. Imprisonment or both, according to state law. Prosecuting attorney Lewis Lutz Smith, Judge Myles F. Parrish, school superintendents and school principals have taken a special interest in school attendance problems.
