Barbara Beckman Wed Saturday To < John C. Thompson The Appleton Chapel of Harvard Memorial church in Harvard Yard. Cambridge. Mass., was the scene of the Saturday wedding of Miss Barbara Ann Beckman and John Clair Thompson. Miss Beckman IsT the daughter of Mrs. Albert Alfred Beekman of 65 rfammond street in Cambridge, and the late Mr. Beckman, and Thompson is the son of Mrs. Joseph J. Thompson of 235 South First street in Decatur, and the late Mr. Thompson. - The new Mrs. Thompson is a Miss Linda Pollock, and Mrs. Gene Moser, who in turn, presented them to Miss Girod. The gift table was decorated in an impressive color scheme of pink, white, and silver. A large umbrella extended from an open archway, from which pink and white streamers tapered to the edges of a table covered with silver paper. After the honored guest opened her many useful gifts, refreshments were served from a beautifully appointed serving table. In the center of the-table was placed a cake in the form of two wedding bells joined at the center with a huge pink and white bow. Small favors in the shape of bells were at one end of the table, with decorated serving plates and napkins at the other end. Those who attended were the Mesdames Gene Moser, Ray Moser, and Richard Girod, and the Misses Joyce Callow, Sharon Kreischer. Leah Brandyberry, Judy Locke, Janet Lane, Jackie James. Helen Roth, Linda \Pollock, Carolyn Auniann, Beverly Poling, Pat Girod. Luanne Lehman, the honored guest and the hostess. Assisting the hostess during the evening were Miss Jeanneane Schultz, Miss Gladys Ewell, and Miss Judy Keller.

graduate of Katherine Gibbs school, in Boston. Mass., and attended Radcllffe College in Cambridge. Her husband is a graduate of the Uni versify of Illinois, and of Harvard University, where he received the degree Os master of business administration this June. While an undergraduate student at Illinois, he was a member of Phi Gamfha Delta social fraternity. HeTs presently a candidate for the doctor of philosophy degree at the University of Illinois. Following a honeymoon at Monhegan Island, Maine, the couple will return to Urbana, 111., where Thompson will be on the faculty of the department of economics at the University of Illinois. Unable to attend but sending gifts were Miss Mara Dee Striker, Miss Ellen McAhren, and Miss Ruth Townsend. PROGRAM IS ANNOUNCED FOR W.C.T.U. CONVENTION The Adams county Christian Temperance Union will hold their fall convention in the Monroe Methodist church Friday, with both morning and afternoon sessions. , _ — The morning session, beginning at 10 o’clock, will Ire as’followi: song service, devotions led by Mrs. Ferd Netter, special music by Berne, departmental reports, treasurer's report, election of officers, and closing prayer. , At noon a carry-in dinner will be served. Everyone attending is asked to bring table service and a covered dish. The afternoon session will get underway at 1:30 o'clock, and will begin with a song service. Devotions will be led by Mrs. C:W. Wilson and a playlet will be given by the Monroe ladies. Following the special music, an address, “Temperance and Missions,” will be presented by Mrs. Samuel Moyer, a returned missionary. A memorial service offering will be followed by | the benediction, to be offered by I Mrs. John Mishler. •

UNION TOWNSHIP CLUB HAS FAMILY PICNIC The Union Township club held its annual family picnic recently at Hanna-Nuttman park, with 50 members attending. A carry-in dinner was featured. Nile ‘Williamson gave the invocation, and Earl Chase showed pictures of several National parks during the evening. Hostesses for the meeting were Mrs. Nile Williamson. Mrs. Forrest Walters, and Mrs. Gerald Springer. The September meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Earl Chase, with Mrs. Warren Nidlinger as assisting hostess. ■ The Eagles auxiliary number 2653 will have nomination and election of treasurer at the regular meeting tonight at 8 o’clock at the Eagles hall. The Work and Win class of the Trinity Evangelical United Brethern church will meet Friday evening at 7:30 o’clock at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Drake. A wiener roast will be held following the business meeting. Each member is asked to bring their own wieners and buns. Our Laay of Victory Discussion club will meet with Mrs. Herman J. Mrs. Cloyd Rucker and children have returned to their home in Irving, Texas, after spending several weeks with Mrs. Rucker’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dan H. Tyndall. Mr. and Mrs. Norbert Hess and sons have returned to their home in Gary after visiting with relatives in Decatur. Mrs. Charles Lobsfger of Bellmont Road received a call from her son Donald Lobsiger and his wife last evening, to wish her a happy birthday. The Lobsigers live in Phoenix, Ariz. Ruddy D. Sheets and his family are now residing at 815 north Fifth street in Decatur. Sheets, the son of Mrs. Ethel Sheets of 919 south Winchester street, has recently completed two years of active duty with the army. Miss Susan Gerber, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Gerber, was returned to her home on south Fifth street over the weekend. She had been a patient in the Lutheran hospital in Fort Wayne. Mr. and Mrs. O.W. Olson and children from LaGrange, 111., were in Decatur over the week-end to visit with Mrs. Olson's mother, Mrs. Will Schnepf, and also to attend the Sunday evening wedding of Miss Greta Erekson and Roger H. Schnepf. Mrs. Charles Lobsiger left today to spend a few days visiting with Mr. and Mrs. C.D. Adams of Cincinnati, Ohio.
