THR DECATUR DAILY DEMOCRAT. DRCATUR, INDIANA

Foreign Policy Is Opposed By Jenner SAN FRANCISCO (UP) — Sen. William E. Jenner, a Hoosier critic of his own party’s national administration, took a verbal swing today at the proposed foreign affairs plank of the Republican national platform. Jenner told Indiana newsmen here for the GOP national convention opening today that the plank reads like it was written by Dean Acheson, secretary of state ip the Democratic administration of former President Truman. “This is not my platform,” Jenner said, as he leafed through an unofficial draft of a foreign affairs plank recommended to the convention by the platform committee. The plank calls for United Nations support. Jenner opposes the UN. The plank called for a collective security program • against communism. Jenner opposes foreign alliances. The plank calls for U.S. military and economic aid to its allies. Jenner opposes any foreign relief. •’ However, Jenner said, he would not fight the platform when it comes up for convention approval. The Indiana delegation at a Suff day caucus renewed its endorsement of Vice President Richard Nixon, an action taken a month ago in Indianapolis. Indiana's 32 convention votes “will definitely back Nixon,” a spokesman said. Eugene C. Pulliam, publisher of the Indianapolis Star and the Indianapolis News, left the convention city before the convention began. His wife, Mrs. Nina Pulliam, was ill in Arizona. Puliam was a member of the platform committee. Body Discovered In River At Ft. Wayne FORT WAYNE (UP)—The body of Marvin J. Harrison. 42, 1217 Hampton Ave. Nashville, Tenn., was found floating the St Marys river here Sunday* Allen County Coroner Dr. Edgar N. Menhall ruled accidental drowning. Mendenhall believed Harrison drowned Sunday. Harrison had stayed at the Rescue Home Mission near the river. He was ousted from church services there Sunday because he had been drinking and was causing a disturbance, authorities said. Bart Landez, 28, Fort Wayne, discovered the body.
