MISS ALICE TUMBLESON IS BRIDE OF BENNETT KEMP Miss Alice Janet Tombleson became the bride of Bennett Lee Kemp Saturday afternoon at 3 o’clock in the hoine of the bride’s parents. The Rev. Benjamin G. Thomas officiated for the singlering ceremony. Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Tumbleson of Willow Wo'od Farm and Mrs. Martha Kemp of Valparaiso. The ceremony was performed before a draped picture window and roses and gladioli were used throughout. The bride, given in marriage by 'her father, was attired in a pale blue imported voile dress with a bouffant embroidered skirt. The built up bodice was fashioned with a peter-pan collar and cap sleeves. She wore a white carnation corsage. The Misses Becky and Janet Lord, nieces of the bride, dressed in identical pink and blue polished cotton dresses with white carnation bracelets, preceded the bride down the open stairway of the Tumbleson home. For her daughter’s wedding, Mrs. Tumbleson chose a black crepe dress with rhinestone button trim and black accessories. The bridegroom’s mother was attired in a black crepe two-piece dress with black accessories. Both wore white carnation corsages. A reception was held immediately following the ceremony with only the immediate families attending. Mrs. Robert Lord and Mrs. Cedric Tumbleson served. For traveling, the bride chose a gray dress and duster ensemble. She wore a large picture hat and white accessories. Mrs. Kemp is a graduate of Monmouth high school and attended Indiana University. Before her marriage she was a cashier bookkeeper at the Qty Utilities. Her husband was graduated from Guilford high school in Guilford, N.C.. and Indiana Technical, College. He also did graduate work at the University Os Michigan. He is presently an instructor of aeronautical engineering at Indiana Technical College in Fort Wayne. - ,— I, L JI DONNA LOU KORTENBER COMPLETES WEDDING >LANS Miss Donna Lou Kortenber has completed plans tor her August 25 wedding to Robert Frank Underwood. The couple will exchange vows at 11 o’clock that, Saturday morning in the St. John the Baptist Catholic church in Fort Wayne and the ceremony will be performed by the Rev. Simeon M. Schmitt. Parents of the bride-elect are Mr. and Mrs. C, F. Kortenber of 610 Nuttman avenue, and the prospective bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Underwood of Murphysboro, 111. The attendants will be Miss Jeanne Wilson of Aurora. Colo., and -Miss Betsy Ann Pugsley of Chicago, 111. Lou Lukancic of Joliet, 111, will be best man, and John Leedom and Ivan Lindgren of Chicago, will be the ushers. Raymond Smith, church organist, will present a musicale preceding the ceremony. A wedding breakfast will be served at the Fairway restaurant and the reception will be held from 3 until 5 o’clock at the R. C. Ehinger home on North Third street. Mrs, Dick ffeller is visiting the David Hensley family at Bronson. Mich, this week. William J. Kruse of route four, Decatur, has gone to Baltimore, Md., where he will enter the John Hopkins hospital for a physical check-up. Mr and Mrs. Fred Striker and family visited with Mr. and Mrs. John Doyle and family of Indianapolis, Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Gerber of this city left Sunday morning for New York City where they will meet Mrs. Gerber's sister. Miss Sally Hower of Indianapolis, who has been teaching in Europe during the past year. Miss Hower will accompany the Gerbers when they return to Decatur later this week. Mr. and Mrs. Pete Reynolds left today to visit Mrs. Reynolds’ brother, George Harris and family, at Kankakee, 111., and also a few days in Chicago. •Miss Kay Yager and Mrs. Ralph Yager returned home from Chicago. 111., Sunday, where they spent the past week attending the business teachers' eonferewce.‘ sponsored’by the Gregg division of Northwestern University. They also attended the Friday night session of the national Democratic convention? Mayor and Mrs. Robert Cole have returned after spending a week’s vacation at Oden. Mich. Cardinal Griffin Os Great Britain Dies LONDON (UP) • - Bernard Cardinal Griffin. Britain’s ranking Catholic churchman, ried early today while ou a mativu in the south of England. The 57-year old cardinal who had been ailing for several years with heart trouble died on the feast day of St. Bernard for whom he was named. Griffin was appointed to the sacred college of cardinals in 1946. and at that time was the ranking Catholic body. He first suffered from high blood pressure in 1949, and had heart attacks in 1951 and 1955. He was appointed sixth archbishop of Westminister in 1943.

MISS JOYCE WELTER IS WED SUNDAY > The St. Job'h’s Lutheran church was the scene of the marriage of .Miss Joyce . Marilyn Welter and Paul Eugene Fuhrman, Sunday eveTilng'at 6:30 o'clock. The Rev. Edwin Jacob read the nuptial,vows for the double-ring ceremony. Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Welter and Mr. and Mrs, Burl Fuhrman. The ’ church altar was adorned with candelabra, pale pink gladioli, white asters and palms. The pews were marked with canales and greens tied with white satin bows. Marvin Meyer and William Uffeiman presided at the organ and Mr. Uffelman also presented vocal selections. The St. John’s Lutheran church choir sang' the Twentythird Psalm. The bride selected a gown of chantilly lace and nylon tulle over crystal whitd satin. The molded lace bodice with brief sleeves was fashioned with an applique neckline sprinkled with sequins which was attached to a sheer yoky. The very full floor-length tulle skirt was appliqued with lace festoons and extended to a chapel train. Her fingertip veil Os imported French illusion was held by a crown of lace flowerettes. Only business during the meeting was the routine payment of claims against the county. The next meeting of the commissioners will be with the county council Sept. 4 and 5 for consideration of the 1957 budgets.
