Nixon Backers Less Worried Over Move Easy Renomination Os Nixon Foreseen SAN FRANCISCO (UP)' — The OOP's top party strategists appeared nwe optimistic than ever today about solving easily their biggest possible convention headache—Harold E. fetassen's effort to dump Vice President Richard M. Nixon from the ticket. Sources close to the vice presi-. dent and also important in the Republican convention planning said they were “not worried" and that neither was Nixon. Hall set the tone for the Republican comments op Mir. Truman’s statement that Stevenson could not defeat President Eisenhower. Hall said the former President could have said that about "anybody they nominate.” In otjher pre-convention GOP developments: Harry Finks, a California delegate and a vice president of the State Federation of Labor, said the Republicans "absolutely cannot win with Nixon on the ticket." Finks said he will work to replace Nixon with Gov. Goodwin J. Knight of California. Knight has said he is not a candidate but is "available.” And he has not flatly endorsed Nixon. A rules subcommittee thumbed down a proposal to speed up convention proceedings by dominating the public polling of delegations.
