Don't know wh*n we have had a more pleaaaat summer, weatherwire. people in our locality have had every chance to enjoy June aad July. August la off to a comfortable start, tot us hope that the remainder ot the summer does as well. 0 0 It is estimated that 3SO farmers will not live to complete their harvest this year. This grim prediction is predicted on farm vehicle deaths over the past three years. Many are victims of auto or track-tractor collisions and it might be well to use the hermit’s bumpier — bet safer. J•—4h— With the pot parade and Dollar Day scheduled this week, a largo crowd was in Decatur Wednesday. More activities of that sort are healthy for any community. A good spirit and goodwill can be fostered if a little more time and effort is put forth. Decatnr always has been the friendliest town in Indiana and we would do wen to promote such activities more often. 0 0 We've often wondered what earlier generations would have thought about all this ‘’retire- ~—— ~- •— ment" Many don't want to retire, many cant afford to retire, yet, it is so willed. It becomes necessary for most to cast about for added income In as much as present provisions for the retired are rarely adequate. Small business pamphlets from the Government Printing Office in Washington, D. C. might aid many to plan for the days of leisure which are often hard to till. One man a.. hhv «!•-)> . . - raises mushrooms at home, another has a unique gift shop"pe” and still others have utilised their ingenuities’ to build that “better mousetrap.” Whatever the -caee may be, one’s own heart, hands and mind can often make golden years.

Accident-conscious people are prone to avoid accidents. Stay conscious — avoid accidents. —o Plans to reorganise our City Health Board is an encouraging sign. Our's is a fine city but it would be a positive move to eliminate some of the health hasards which are ever-present The sources ot some diseases are indefinite but it would appear that we cannot do too much to make every effort to wipe out any possible hasard. Breeding places tor various insects could and should be eliminated completely so let’s get at it It is our duty to report any such places which may have escaped the attention ot city officials. We have adequate ordinances to abate these unhealthy spots and the present administration is anxious to cooperate. Do your part kt home; do your part away from home. —oo 1 Ladies, m event yon had planned to attend a national convention you are urged to “make a note of the drees, hat, bag, gloves, and shoes” you will be wearing, moments of “agonising indecision’’ will be saved and result in “increased efficiency." A release from the “Harriman tor President headquarters” goes on to suggest a cardigan sweater, plain or jeweled, a small fur and a topcoat A faille raincoat will be in order but with pushed-up sleeves and longer-than-usual gloves. All the above is tor extra-curricular functions and convention-hall clothes should include: simple, tailored, dark cottons, orlon, linen or cotton prints. Finally, “delegates are urged to remember the demands of TV.” Small prints are acceptable but will "jump” on television. Above all, “No big hats, please!” They will obscure the wearer as well as others in the immediate vicinity. My-my, suppose San Francisco, makes similar demands and we thought conventions were held to further interests of the parties.
