1957 All-Star Game Awarded St Louis NEW YORK (UP) — The St. Louis Cardinals will be hosts for the major league all-star game next July for the first time since the 1940 season. The major leagues awarded the annual classic to the Cardinals Thursday In response to an invitation from August Busch, president of the St. Louis club. Berne Equity Exchange of Berne purchased the reserve champion barrow entered by Jerry Schwarts. The 195 pound barrow sold for 66 cents per pound or a total of 3126.75. Jimmy Brown’s grand champion boar was sold to the Craigville Elevator of Craigville for 45 cents per pound. Weighing 165 pounds, it brought a total price of 374.25. The First State Bank was purchaser of first place Chester White senior barrow entered by Donald Fuelling. The purchase price was 382 for the 205 pound animal which went at 40 cents per pound. The top senior barrow in the Duroc breed entered by David Sommers was sold for 40 cents per pound to the Berne Master Feed store. The animal weighed 185 pounds, making a total purchase price of 374. According to the report ot the Finst State Bank, 14,150 pounds were auctioned during the swine sale at a total purchase price of 33,655.62. The average animal weighed 197 pounds, sold for 26 cents per pound and brought a price of 350.78.
