SURPRISE BRIDAL SHOWER IS GIVEN RECENTLY A surprise bridal shower was given In honor of Miss Virginia Wolfe, bride-elect of Walter Hirschy, Sunday afternoon at the home of Suzanne Kuhn, with Elinor Bl Ider back and Marlene Ohler assisting. A white aster corsage was pre* Rented to the honored guest upon her arrival. Games were played and prizes were given Miss Wolfe. Refreshments were then served by the hostesses. Guests included the Mesdames Martha Sehelby. Esther Hirschey, Mary Fuch. Thelma Bilderback, Helen Schaffer, Mildred Wolfe, Bonnie Marckel, May Hirschey, and Margaret Kuhn, tire Misses Janfee (Geisler, Barbara Hirschey, Kathryn Hirschey, Ann Fodr, Patsy Burkhart Judy Brunstrup, Ramona Gattshall, and Virginia Wolfe. Those unable to attend but sending gifts were Mrs. Wilbur Hawk-ins,Miss-Helen Cook, Mrs. Lucille Foor, arid Mrs. Rita Clouse. HALBERSTADT FAMILIES TO OBSERVE SESQUICENTENNIAL The Halberstadt families of America will celebrate their sesquicentennial (1806-1956) August 5, at Logansport at the Spencer park. A basket dinner will be featured at noon. in 1806, Anthony Halberstadt settled in what is now known as Franklin county, on a revolutionary war soldier's land claim, ten years before Indiana was a state. Eight generations of Halberstadts, and the last five generations, have lived in Adams county. The late Frank P. Halberstadt of Monroe, James Halberstadt. Sr.,, of Pleasant Mills. Mary Melching of Pleasant .Mills, Melvin B. Werling of Decatur and his daughters Becky and Dianne are the eighth generation. VALPARAISO GUILD COMPLETES PLANS The Decatur circuit chapter of the Valparaiso University guild completed its plans and committees for the big auction which will be conducted by the students of the ißeppert school of auctioneering Staurday, August 11, on Madistreet, beginning at .1 o’clock. Dr. Roland Reppert and Miss Grace Lichtenstiger are working with the guild committee to coordinate the activities of the students and the 130 ladies from the ten Lutheran congregations in this area. Together they hope to makq the auction an outstanding opportunity for the community to see the 65 students from all parts of the country develop into fij-jjt class auctioneers in their three weekj term which began Monday.

Mrs. Edgar Krueckeberig and, Mrs. Theodore Bleeke, co-chairmen of the charity sale, report that a very large variety of goods can be expected, with ladies from so many congregations participating. The Reppert school of auctioneering is donating , a>ll the money 'received from tlie to the project fund of the which will be used toward the building of the guild chapel on the campus at Valparaiso. Mrs. Krueckeberg and Mrs. Bleeke are being assisted by the Mesdames Alton Bittner, Louts Jacobs and Robert Zwick, members of the guild project Committee. W.S.W.S. unit .two of the BethanyE.U.B. church will meet at the home of Mrs. Earl Fuhrman Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock. Mrs. Fred McConnell will be the program chairman. The Salem W.S.C.S. were guests Thursday at the cottage of Mr. and Mrs. Rue Strayer on Hamilton lake. A basket lunch was enjoyed at the noon hour. The afternoon was spent swimming and boating. Rainbow for Girls will meet at the Masonic hall Thursday evening at 6:45 o’clock. Barnes and Sandra Roebuck Melton of Chandler, Artz., are the parents of a son born July 26. He weighed eight pounds and four ounces and has been named Bradley Steven. At the Adams county memorial hospital: Edwin and Betty Hockemeyer Witte of Decatur became the parents of a. baby boy born Monday at 9:21 p.m., weighing eight pounds and 13 ounces. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Myers are at Oliver Lake for a two weeks'" vacation. Dick Shaffer, 65, retired janitor of Decatur high school, is in serious condition at the Parkview hospital in Fort Wayne. He submitted to partial surgery Sunclay evening for a tumor on the brain, and doctors have requested that he have no visitors. Mr. and Mrs. Noah Steury are vacationing in Wisconsin this week with Mr. and Mrs. V. C. The mernury fell into the low 60s throuabout the state early this morning and wan slated to range from 82 tn 87 today as July gives way to August. At Indianripolits, the July average temperature was about 72.9 degrees, third lowest average for this normally hot summer month in the last 56 years. Pleads Not Guilty To Speeding Charge John R. Hart, 19, of Decatur, arrested Sunday by state police for speeding on U. S. highway 224, entered a plea of not guilty to the charge this morning in city court. His bond was set at *SO and trial has been set for Monday, Aug. 6. Donald R. Brace, 35, of Greenville, Pa., was fined *25 and costa id mayor's court this morning on a charge of operating a truck without the proper operating authority. He was arrested this morning in Preble. John H. Graves, an Indianapolis truck driver, appeared in justice of the peace Floyd Hunter’s court this morning on a charge of speeding. He was fined *5 and costa. Two Parked Autos Damaged Monday Two parked cars were damaged by moving vehicles in minor accidents Monday. A parked car owned by Mary J.
