Today Deadline On Soil Bank Program Acreage Reserve Program Deadline WASHINGTON (UP) — The deadline for putting surplus land in this year’s “soil bank'* tails today. The agriculture aepartnrent said Thursday more than eight million acres of crop land wefre taken out of production by last week. Farmers will get $164,906,473 from the government lor not producing crops on their land. The department’s goal for the 1956 soil bank program was B’A million to 15 million acres. Acreage deposited through July 30 almost reaches the minimum goal. Under tne acreage reserve program, farmers can earn payments for cutting production below government acreage allotments oa cotton, corn, wheat, peanuts, rice and tobacco. Corn acreage deposits of 3,300,000 acres were close to the department’s maximum of 4,000,066 for that crop. The minimum corn goal was 2,000,000 acres.
