Gravel water also is reported to be much softer. Failure to obtain the needed additional supply has revived the theory of many local people that it might be necessary to study the possibility of erecting a dam across the St. Mary’s river south of the eity and construct a reservoir of river water,' which would have to be brought to use through a filtering plant. No policy will be adopted by the city administration until after Wednesday’s conference with the Layne-Northern engineers it was reported today. It was also pointed out that there is not an immediate water emergency here, but that it is necessary to adopt a long range program with a view to tapping a new source fo£ a future supply. European Nations Plagued By Unrest Britain, Italy And France Are Plagued LONDON (UP) — Labor unrest plagued Britain, France and Italy today. Worried British labor leaden ordered out stronger picket lines to enforce “the strike nobody wants" against Britain’s biggest motor company. In Italy, the government called out troops to prevent strikers from interfering with 132 special trains during a 24-hour nationwide work stoppage. In France, the small independent Engineers and Firemen’s Union launched another 24-hour strife. But early reports indicated its effect wa snegligible. Both rail strikes were over demands for increased wages. The strike -against the British Motor Corp, stemmed from the dismissal of some 6,000 “surplus” employes. But the half-hearted response by union members caused considerable concern among union leaders. Less than half of BMP's 50,000 employes heeded the strike call Monday, The non-union press called it a resounding defeat for organized labor. Some said it was the first major threat to union solidarity since the war. Workers braved picket lines and cries of “scab” and “traitor” to report to work as usual at the 13 plants of BMC which turns out Austin, Morris and MG and other, lesser-known automobiles. The nationwide strike on Italy’s state-run railway network came at the peak of the vacation and tourist season. Thousands of foreign tourists, holiday bound Italians and local commuters were stranded. Some 200.000 railway workers walked out. on the 24-hour strike at 12:01 a.m., cancelling scheduled runs for 6,000 trains. The government pressed 132 trains into emergency service and manned them with armed soldiers to prevent any attempts of trouble by strikers. — A.S.C COMMUNITY (Continued from Page One) N, Seltenright, coiinty agent, was chairman.
