Junior Legion Team Defeats Geneva, 6-2 The Decatur Junior American Legion team defeated Geneva, 8-2, behind the three-hit pitching of Gene Baxter Wednesday night at Worthman field. 7 Decatur scored three runs in the third on only one hit, a single by Ballard, plus a hit batter, two walks and an error. Two more counted in the fourth on a -walk and doubles by Baxter and Kable. A pair of walks and Shraluka's single accounted for the final run tn the sixth. Geneva, blanked for six innings, scored both its runs In the seventh inning on « walk, a hit and two errors. ft The Junior Legion tourney will get underway here next Monday night, with Geneva meeting Bluffton at 7:30 p.m. at Worthman field. The Monday night winner will play .Decatur at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. In event rain forces postponement of Friday's games, they will be played Saturday afternoon at 1 o’clock at Worthman. Blacks, Golds Win In Morning League The Blacks defeated the Reds, 7-3, and the Golds scored a no-hit 2- shutout over the Whites in the final regularly scheduled games of the Morning league Wednesday at Wortbnpan field. The Golds won the regular league play with a record of seven victories and two defeats. The Whites finished second with a 6-3 mark, the Blacks were third at 3- and the (Reds wound up in the cellar with a 2-7 record. Next week will be final week of the season for the Morning league, w-ith a tourney starting Monday morning. In opening round games Monday, the Reds play the Golds at 9 am., followed by the Blacks and Whites at 10 o’clock. The Monday winners will then meet for the tourney title.

Braves Regain Two-Game Lead Over Redlegs By FRED DOWN (United Press Sports Writer) Lew Burdette and Bob Buhl form the National League's No. 1 pitching combination today and shape up as the key players in the Braves’ battle to win their first pennant in Milwaukee. With matching 11-4 won-and-lost records, the two right - handers have won more games than any pitching duo on the Braves* rivals and they seem to be getting better as the season wears on. Buhl chalked up his 11th win Monday and Burdette followed with bis 11th Wednesday night when the Braves down the New York Giants, 7-3. Burdette, who has won his last four games, limited the Giants to eight hits and struck out nine as the Braves supported him -with a seven-hit attack that included a triple, double and single by Hank Aaron. Aaroff raised his average to .329. The victory enabled the Braves to restore their first place lead to two games when the Brooklyn Dodgers defeated the second-place Cincinnati Redlegs, 6-3. The Philadelphia Phillies beat the Chicago Cubs, 6-4 and 6-1, and the St. Louis Cardinals battled to a 1-1 tie with the Pittsburgh Pirates in the other National League games. The Dodgers routed nemesis Johnny Klippstein with a four-run first inning and went on to snap the Redlegs* four-game winning streak. Carl Erskine won his fifth straight and seventh decision of the year although he needed help from Clem Labine in the seventh. Sandy Amords climaxed the Dodgers’ big first inning -with a tworun homer.
Robfn Roberts won his 10th game and Curt Simmons his sixth as the Phillies made it eight victories in their last 19 games. Roberts yielded 11 hits but left seven men stranded in the opener while Simmons throttled the Cubs with five hits in the nightcap. Jim Greengrass drove in four runs in the second game for the 'Phillies. Dale Long doubled 'nbmeJohhhy O’Brien in the top of the ninth to earn the Pirates a deadlock with the Cardinals in a game ended by rain in the top, of the Iffth. That run sent Vinegar Bend Mizell his 10th win after he shut out the Pirates with three hits for eight frames. The game will be replayed as part of a doubleheader on Aug--23. ■ -n-.. In the American League, the Detroit Tigers snapped the New York Yankees’ 11-game winning streak with 8-4 and 4-3 victories. Paul Foytack struck out 10 batters to win his seventh game in the opener and Frank Lary beat the Yankees for the fourth time this year in the second. Mickey Mantle hit his 31st homer in the opener to go nine games ahead of Babe Ruth’s record 1927 pace.
