Eddie Machen Wins Over Nino Valdes MIAMI BEACH,- Fla. (UP) — Unbeaten Edijlie Machen of, San Francisco asked today for a fight with heavyweight challenger Floyd Patterson as a reward for Wednesday night's eight-round knockout over big Nino Valdes in their television bout at the auditorium here. > "Lot Patterson show his stuff against me before he tries to fight Archie Moore for the vacant title.’’ declared the 23-year-old belter who had registered his 15th straight victory and his 12th knockout before 2,913 fans. “After all, Patterson became a challenger by outpointing Hurricane Jackson,” 23-year-old Machen continued., "Well, Valdes knocked out Jacks6n in the second round, and now I’ve beaten Valdes twice." Machen. lOth-ranking contender, outprtinted big Valdes of Cuba at San Francisco on April 16, and knocked him out Wednesday night at 47 .seconds of the eighth, round with a finishing left hook to the chin. Nino's handlers required nearly two minutes to him. Thirty-one-year old Valdes outweighed Eddie. 206% pounds to 192; but Nino was an 8-5 underdog as he suffered his third knockout and 13th defeat tn 50 professional bouts. He was also knocked out by Joe Louis in an exhibition.
