Three Plead Guilty To $16,000 Holdup Plead Guilty For Carmel Bank Holdup INDIANAPOLIS (UP) — Two women and a man plead gui’ty today to federal charges in the ?U5.000 holdup of the Union State Bank of Carmel last Sept. 12. One of the women was Mis. Pauline Drake. 23. wife of Roy Rudolph Drake. 32, who has been sought by the FBI as a '‘most wanted” fugitive from the 166.000 holdup of the Southport state Bank last June 12. The others were Robert E. Fowler. 30, and his former wife. Rose Marie Gray, 25. All three were charged with abetting a bank robbery and conspiracy to rob a bank. Fowler and Mrs. Drake were charged also with possessing stolen bank money. Federal Judge Cale J. Holder accepted the guilty pleas but did not sentence the three pending pre-sentence investigations. Three lawyers appeared with the defendants. Fowler was unemotional during the court session. Mias Gray wept quietly. The three could draw a combined total of 105 years iprisotiment and 160.000 fines. Meanwhile, the FBI sought Drake, who vanished the day the Southport bank was held up in Indiana’s second biggest bank holdup and the president and his wife kidnaped and held for hours until the vaults opened. Mrs. Drake was arrested a tew days later and more than 122,000 of the* missing money was found in her home and in a station wagon she drove. There was evidence too. that she and Drake drove to Marshall. Hl., after the holdup and .that he headed west while she returned to Indianapolis. The Carmel holdup was similar to that Southport. A cashier, her mother and her sister were taken prisoner in home and forced to drive the-robber to the_ bank to await opening the valut. During Wednesday’s foreign aid debate in the house, Rep. John J. Rooney (D-NY) read a news report which quoted Soviet ambassador to London Jacob Malik as saying: •’l'm for Eisenhower. The people of Europe know him and like him. We can do business with President Eisenhower. ' Shame on you," exclaimed Rep. Charles A. HalleekTß-lnd>. Halleck described Rooney’s action as “a new low and the people of this country are going to resent U ” On the other side of the Capitol at a meeting of the senate Interior committee, Sen. James E.-. Murray (DuMont) charged the Republicans plan to use a "soft on communism . . Smear campaign” against Democrats in this year's campaign. Murray cited a recent document put out by the senate GOP policy committee saying Communists want a Democratic victory in November. But three GOP senators-Thom-as H. Kuchel (R-Ca’.if). Arthur V. Watkins IR-Utah) and Frank A. Barnett (R-Wyo) — promptly rejected Murray’s charge.
