lowa Stale College Site Os Laboratory Selection Made By Secretary Benson WASHINGTON (UP)— Secretary of agriculture Ext* T. Befmon today selected lowa State College at Ames, lowa, a* the site for a new animal disease laboratory. Benson once attended tew* State College. Benson announced the selection of lowa State College on the recommendation of a site selection committee. He said the selection was subject to "completion of satisfactory arrangements locally,” The lowa college was chosen from a group of nine colleges and universities which generally met the desired requirements regard* ing location of an animal disease laboratory. The committee had screened the presentations of more than 30 land grant colleges and universities and more than 30 cities and towns, as well as about 40 additional written proposals before selecting the 9 possible locations. From the group of nine llenson selected his alma mater. Congress has under consideration an estimate for an appropriation for the construction of a new animal disease laboratory. Congress specified several weeks ago that the'new laboratory should be built at some spot other than Beltsville, Md., location of the agriculture department’s research center-.
