private utilities in a fight to destroy public power and remove all opposition to “a complete private power monopoly in the United States.'* The Democratic majority of the house government operations committee made public a 250-page report calling for Mr. Eisenhower to fire interior undersecretary Clarence A. Davis and assistant secretary Fred G. Aandahl. The report accused former Interior secretary Douglas McKay, Davis and Aandahl of a "braien attempt” to subvert the law by favoring private utilities in the sale of federal power. Republican members r of the 30man committee issued an angry dissent.
They denounced what they called the Dempcrats’ "venomous attack on private enterprise.” The Democratic report, they said, was a “textbook for socialism.” The Republicans’ 50-page dissent said the Democrats had displayed a “shocking misuse of (Congressional prerogatives and functions for partisan purposes” The reports are based on 18 days of stormy hearing held in Springfield, Mo., Atlanta. Ga., Denver, Colo., Idaho Falls, Idaho. San Francisco, Calif., and Washington. D. C„ last year by a subcommittee headed by Rep. Earl Chudoff (DPa). ,» Democrat Want Ads Bring Results

Army Plans Shakeup In Reserve Program Moves To Build Up Ready Reserve Force WASHINGTON (UP) —The army announced plans today to transfer 500,000 reservists from the ready to the standby reserve, JTeeing them from any sail to active duty except by act of congress. An additional 475,000 reservists will be discharged altogether. Thay are men who served prior to June, 1951, mostly Korean war veterans, whose tour as reservists would soon ead anyway. The army announced the shakeup in its reserves as a move to “build up a truly ready reserve force” of 1.692,000 reservists and national guardsmen available for immediate call in war or other emergency. Ready reserves can be called to active duty by presidential order whereas standby reservists are liable only if congress declares war or a national emergency. An army spokesman said most of the men affected by the army plan, which will be carried out during the year starting July 1, have not been actively participating in reserve units. Penalties for .failure to participate have been In effect only since last .year’s reserve act was passed and do not apply to those who already were in the reserves.
The army said the aim of the new screening program is to keep in ready reserve units men who are physically fit, have necessary military qualifications and will be available for immediate service in emergency. The screening process will remove from the ready reserve men who would be needed vitally in industry, research and activities necessary to national health and safety.
