Farmers in this area are becoming concerned because of the recent downpour* Many are far behind in their spring farm work and fear is expressed over possible crop failures if the rainy weather continues. ;. Racing cars in the 500-mlle speedway classic last Memorial day were held down to a slow pace for more than an hour because of mishaps. Think what the time would have been, had the drivers been permitted to open tip tor the entire distance. The speed of such a rtve, however, isn’t as important to Mr. Average citisen as the many now parts for passenger automobiles which got their rigid test at the Speedway. Os course, it has to be a speeding auto to make a thorough test. If tires, spark plugs, gasoline, oil and equipment prove successful in a series of races, then they are introduced to the public and maybe we do gain from these speed classics. , z > 0 Jg 1 Congratulations are due those who took part in Decatur’s Memorial Day services, co-sponsored by a committee from the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars- Members of those two organisations and their auxiliaries j together with the dram corps, sponsored by Fort Wayne American Legion Post 148 and Decatur high echoed band and others,, formed in the line of march. It was a fine parade, headed by Legionnaire Clyde Butler as field marshall and Robert Smith as assistant. Several local organise-, . tlons, some of whom conduct drives for sustaining funds each year on the grounds that they are “public spirited,” were very noticeably absent. Os the many Boy Scouts in Decatur only" ten marched in the parade. It would \ ■seem tfiat every local ciyjc group and especially the 10dges should ( be represented in a Memorial Day parade. Pttblic attendance'-’ • was good. Two’ hundred or so people stood in front of the Monument and that many more were in their automobiles parked on Third Street. It is wonderful that the two local service organisations lead the way in a Memorial On this day set aside as a Memorial. Perhaps next year more of us will take the hour’s time to take part or at least attend. ? ‘ teteM, s». ’
