Study Program For Belter Rural Roads Deplore Politics In County Departments INDIANAPOLIS (INB) — The commission on state tax and financing policy is scheduled to meet Monday in Indianapolis to consider a program for Improving rural rogds, Including the ticklish proposal that county highway depnrtments be taken out of politics. The group, which is to present the accepted proposals to the 1967 general assembly, is headed by Courtney Johnson, of South Bond. A subcommittee composed of Prof. John E. Stoner, of Indiana University, and Prof. Ben H. Patty of the Purdue University highway engineering department, is to make recommendations growing out of a survey the men made of county highway departments. They found that none of the 92 counties has a professional engi neer, and that county surveyors and highway supervisors often had no real authority over road planning but that this was done by the county commissioners. The men urged that each county have a professional registered engineer who would be given the authority to plan highway construction. Trade in' a Good Town — Decatur.
