Annual Poppy Poster Winners Announced Annual Poppy Days Friday, Saturday Winners of the American Legion auxiliary’s annual poppy poster contest have been announced by Mrs. Harve Baker, president of the Adams unit of the auxiliary, following the judging of the posters by a committee of local artists. The posters, drawn by students in school art classes, depict the spirit and purpose of the auxiliary’s memorial poppy, which is worn on Poppy I>ays, May 25-26, in tribute to the war dead. The posters were judged in three classes, with the winners in each class, being announced as follows: class one — fourth, fifth, and sixth grades; first prize. Sheri Uhrick, a fifth grade student at Monmouth school. Class two — seventn, eighth, and ninth grades: first prize, Kent Girod, an eighth grade student at Monmouth; second prize: Linda, Lou Kruetzman, eighth grade stit-; dent at Monmouth; and third prize: Janet Shaffer, eighth grade student at Monmouth. Class three — 10th. 11th and 12th grades: first prize. Byron Linker, 11th grade student at Monmouth; second prize, Sharon Beltz, 12th grade student at Monmouth; and third prize, Delores Marie Rodenbeck. 10th grade student. Mrs. Russell Owens is the art teacher at Monmouth school. Awards will be presented to each of the winners. Judges included Mrs. Adrian Wemhoff and Miss Wilma Andrews. The posters entered in the contest are being displayed in downtown store windows during this week. The three winning posters will be entered in the state contest. from which three winners will be selected to represent the state in the national contest. • ' Two Convicted Os Soliciting Claims INDIANAPOLIS (INS) — Two railroad employes await sentencing Tuesday after being found guilty of soliciting claims business for a Chicago firm from survivors of train accidents. Barney L. Rappold, 53, and Harley E. Ellers. 55. both of New Bethel, were convicted by a jury in Marion County Criminal Court last Friday of attempting to persuade persons with insurance claims against the New York Central’ railroad to hire one’ law firm (Feurst and Feurst). Egypt And Poland Arms Deal Denied CAIRO (INS) — The official Egyptian radio announced Sunday that Egypt and Poland had concluded an arms deal but the report later was denied. Censorship reportedly was clamped on further mention of the deal after the brief radio announcement and both Egyptian and Polish officials maintained that none of the recent agreements negotiated between them was for arms. It was explained there had been a mistake at the radio station.
New Government Is Organized In Jordan Jordan Government Now Anti-British AMMAN (INS) —A new Jordan ian government was being formed today by anti-British, pro-Egyptian former Premier Said Mufti. Mufti, who had been forced to resign last December when he led the fight against Jordan’s becoming a member of the Baghdad pact, was asked by King Hussein to form a new government Sunday immediately after pro-western premier Samir Rlfai quit. Ritai’s resignation reportedly followed a quarrel with Hussein over closer cooperation with the Egyptian-led Arab bloc. Risa recently declared that Jordan would never "fall under Egyptian influence” and that *‘we shall never bive up the Anglo-Jordan treaty."
