1 Creamed "al I OoaunefttsJM I Creamed comments top the Sunday school lessoii, The Church Tn Asia Minor, Acts 13:1-4; 13:44-49, for Sunday, May 27.. There was bofu in the ‘heart of the church at Antioch a ary passion. Thia called tot, bach earnest prayer that, they' fasted and were God-led to ..commission Barnabas and Saul Ito undertake the task commanded by, C?Hirst—to go into, all the world.hud pyeich the gospel. V.l. “Now there were at the church that was at Antipch, certain prophets and teachers, as Barnabas, and Simeon that was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene. nd Manaen which had been brought up under Herod the tetraeh, and Saul.” After the Antioch church had sent an offering to the Jerusalem church, spiritual help was returned by the coming of prophets, specially ordained leaders. and teachers. Here was harmony at work. V. 2. “As they ministered to the. Lord and fasted, the Holy Ghost i said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the ministry whereunto I have called them ”. The spiritual condition was now ripe for God to act. The third person of the Trinity, the Holy Ghost, made clear the importance of the ministry of Christ. -. V. 3. “And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.” Here was real prayer. They prayed so earnestly and so long, they continued in prayer without eating. Here was an ordination service in the laying on of hands. All missionary endeavor must be supported by earnest prayers of the home church. ; V. 4. “So they, being sent forth by tlie Holy Ghost, departed unto Seieucia and from thence they sailed ttr Cyprus.” Cyprus was the native country of Barnabas. It is ■at.natnfftlj that Barnabas yearned pf the home y gmrk is both home ami foreign. « IV. 44. “And on next Sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God.” The intervening events included the preaching in Cyprus and the preceding Sabbath at Antioch, i There was much opposition, espec-1 ially by the Jewish membership of . the synagogues. Nevertheless. Paul i proceeded to show clearly how, I by their own Old Testament teachings, his preaching was founded on what they believed up to the point of the fact that the Messiah had ! come. With the Jews refusing to accept Christ as the Saviour, attention was being given to the non-Jews, now called Geptiles. V. 45. "Rut when the Jews saw the multitude, they Will filled with envy and spake against those things which were spoken by Paul, contradicting and blaspheming.” Here was a case of a closed mind over against an open mind. On the preceding Sabbath, the Gentiles had an open mind which was caught by the city so they came in large numbers. The closed mind is envious when changes for the better are presented; they say. j “We have always done it this way.” V. 46. "Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that God should first have been. Apoken to you; but seeing ye put it from you, and judged yourselves untrustworthy of everlasting life, 10, we turn to the Gentiles.” Seeking eternal life is of prime importance and siqce the Jews would not accept him wfro — ..

They were ordained by this new provision and were recognized as true followers of the Lord. V.49..“And the word of the. Lord was published throughout all the region.” Here Is the proof of dynamic Christianity; it spreads when given a chance. God has planned for men to reach men with his gospel. • — The Rev. D.
