Catholic Conference ; Meets Last Evening : The annual spring meeting of the Central Indiana Catholic conference was held at Huntington Wednesday evening, was featured by selection of the all-cohr ference baseball team. Jerry Voglewede, Decatur Catholic high school senior, was named utility infielder on the all-star team, the only Decatur player chosen, although Phil Reed and Dave Kable of the Commodores were given honorable mention. Members of the all-CIC team are: First base, Kroeger. Huntington Catholic; second base, Miller, Marlon Bennett; third base, Guerrero, Marion; shortstop, D. Frick, Huntington; catcher, Aguilar, Marion; left field, Raih, Marion; center field, Harrington, Anderson St. Mary's; right field. Orr, Marlon; pitcher, N. Stolts, Marion; utility infielder, Jerry Voglewede. Decatur; utility outfielder, White, Marion. Each member of the conference team will receive a silver (miniature) baseball. Those receiving honorable mention were Reed and Kable of Decatur, Francour and Snyder of Anderson, Boyle and Bartrom of Huntington; McNevins of Marion. J. Gross, of Anderson, the league batting champion with an average of .526, was awarded the batting trophy, and N. Stoltz, of Marlon, was awarded a trophy for the pitching championship. Paul Russo Breaks Mark As Speedway INDIANAPOLIS (INS) ~- Qualifying records set by the late Jack McGrath at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway were doubly sure of replacement Saturday after Paul Russo, of Inglewood. Calif., set an unofficial new record of 146.6 miles per hour around the oval track. The new record, marking the first time‘any driver has completed a lap around the 2ty mile track above 145 mites an hour, was set in a Npvi Vespa racer just before sundown Wednesday. Women's Golf League Opens Season June 6 A meeting of the rules committee of the Women’s golf league was held Wednesday at the home of Mrs. Lowell Harper. It was decided to start league play June 6. Saxton Winner By Technical Knockout CHICAGO (INS) — Welterweight champion Johnny Saxton of Brooklyn won a 10th round technical knockout Wednesday night over Oil Turner of Philadelphia In a non-title bout at the Chicago stadium. Saxton weighed 149 and Turner 151 for the nationally televised fight. Turner suffered a cut over his right eye in the first round. He was bleeding from the-throat and nose when the bout was stopped.
