The group was then invited to the basement, where the banquet was served from tables decorated in lovely spring flowers. , MOTHER-DAUGHTER BANQUET HELD RECENTLY A mother and daughter banquet was recently held by thu Eagles auxiliary with 13 members and nine guests present. Chairman Anna Myers, presented the auxiliary mother, Charlotte Stevens, with a lovely gift. Mrs. Veavo of Van i Wert. 0.. won the,,door prixe. Ora Lou Veavo was presented with a gift for being the youngest mother present. The next regular ■ meeting of the auxiliary will be i Tuesday. May 8. at 8 o'clock at the | Eagles hall. ’ , ■ — MONMOUTH P.T.A. TO HOLD feFINAL MEETING OF YEAR V The Monmouth P.T.A: will hold 1 ’its final meeting of the year Monday evening at 7: SO o'clock. This meeting will be school achievement night. Officers will be installed during.' a/, short business meeting. A very Interesting program is being planned by the faculty, with Mrs. Robert Klelnhenx as chairman. A style show will be presented by the home ec classes, taught by Mrs. Hederhorst, modeling the clothes they have made during the year. The physical ed class, under th» direction of Mrs. Klelnhenx. will have drills and exhibitions. Music will be furnished by the school band under the direction of Darrell Gehrig.
TRAINING IN CIVIL DEFENSE TO LEADERS In keeping with national home demonstration week which ends Saturday, leaders of clubs in Adj ams county will receive training in civil defense. The meeting will be held at 1 p. m. Friday, at the Co-Op building in Monroe. Jack Gordon and Mrs. Wanda Oelberg, civil de-, sense leaders in Adams county, will present the situation as pertaining to Adams county, and what homemakers should be doing. Others who may be interested in this j topic are encouraged to attend. A I film will be shown, and material I distributed for use in club meetings. GUIDANCE INSTITUTE HELD HERE TUESDAY Forty ladies of Zion Lutheran church attended the Lutheran Woipeu's guidance institute held Tuesday evening ip the parish Hal 1. ‘ The Rev. Edgar Schmidt led the opening devotion. Two topics were presented, the first by the Rev. Henry Abram entitled "Deepening of Spiritual Life.” He explained the great need for growtlf hi spiritual life, how we grow spiritually and then the results of it as it shows in our daily living. Small groups were formed to ! study questions pertaining to the I topic, and then the reporter for ; each table brought its remarks to ; the assembly. Coffee was served i between the evening topics. The Rev. Otto C. Busse gave the topic on “Personal Evangelism.” He opened his remarks with examples from the Bible of the real purpose of life. Then he explained the requisites, the opportunities, and the practical application of personal evangelisnl. Another "buxz i session” was held on this topic * and each table reported its ideas. Rev. Mr. Bell is retired now gfter living many years in the Decatur area. He is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Bell. Mrs. Bell is a long time resident of Decatur. Both have many friends and relatives in this area, and want to spend part of each year dn their home town. HAPPY HOMEMAKERS HOLD MEETING RECENTLY The Happy Homemakers home demonstration club met Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. Carl Mrs. George Thomas opened the meeting and led the group ip singing the club prayer and repeating the creed. Mrs. Clarence Mitchel gave the history of the song of the month. Scripture was read by Mrs. Earl Harmon, who also read a poem entitled “My Mother’s Rocking Chair.” Mrs. Floyd Mitehel then gave a reading. “Ma Joins the Club.” Roll call was answered and the minutes were read and approved. Detroit Widow Is American Mother NEW YORK (INSJ —A Detroit widow who has been mother to 45 ‘children, only one of whom was hers by birth, has been named the American mother of 1956. Mrs. Jane Maxwell Pritchard was named by a jury of the American mothers committee for raising ten legally adopted children, her own son, Dale, and serving as foster mother in recent years to 34 girls from juvenile court. The 67-year-old Mrs. Pritchard will receive her citation at the annual mothers conference openihg Monday in New York.

Revs. Durkin, Hessian Named Monsignors Two Fort Wayne diocesan priests' known to residents of Decatur are among eight in the diocese who have been honored by Pope Pius XII with the title of Monsignor. They are Msgr. Thomas L. Durkin and Magr. Joseph A. Hesston. Monsignor Durkin Is a native of Decatur. He served as assistant pastor of St. Peter’s Catholic church in Fort WaWyne after his ordination in 1936. Since 1947 he has served as pastor of Sacred Heart Church in Fort Wayne and now holds the office of dean of the Fort Wayne deanery. Monsignor Hesston is dean of the Elkhart deanery and has been an *
