Missiles To Change Nature Os Warfare Light Warheads For Long-Range Missiles WASHINGTON (INS) — The air force has reported a major scientific ’’breakthrough” which assures the U. S. of having "light and handy” H-bomb warheads for ocean-spanning missiles. Maj. Gen. Samuel R. Brentnail, assistant chief of staff for guided missiles, told the house military appropriations subcommittee that the development has "changed the nature of scientific warfare.” In testimony made public Sunday. the general explained that the technical problems posed by the size of the nuclear warhead had hampered earlier attempts to build intercontinental missiles. Taking the wraps off an achievement previously reported only unofficially, Brentnail testified: “The advent of light-weight, high-yield warheads made ballistic missiles attractive because it simplified many technical problems and insured that thermonuclear explosives would be light and handy enough to be carried by long-range missiles ofMeasonable size.” Adequate Program Os Civil defense Urged Gloomy Picture Is Painted By Expert WASHINGTON (INS) — A congressional expert said today that 57 million Americans living, in metropolitan areas have only one chance in 10 Oof escaping “sure death” if an atomic-hydrogen war should come now.
