ROSE GARDEN CLUB PLACES SECOND AT CONVENTION At the state convention of Indiana Garden clubs, which closed Friday, the Rose Garden elub of Decatur won second place in the state on its scrapbook. Mrs.'Bert Haley is the president of the club and Mrs. Clem Kortenber is the historian. The group celebrated its silver anniversary this year and the northeast district, to which Adame* county belongs, will be hostess In 1957 for the state convention, which will be held in Fort Wayne. D.A.V. AUXILIARY HOSTS STATE OFFICERS RECENTLY A potluck dinner was recently served by the D. A. V. auxiliary at the D. A. V. home, entertaining the state officers. The tables were decorated with flower pots of petunias trimmed with gold and blue. The meeting was opened with the regular rituals. The conductress, Mrs. Doris 8 tai ter, escorted the guests to the front, and Mrs. Mildred Belts, commander, Introduced them. Portland, Logansport, Fort Wayne number one and Fort Wayne number 40. Games were played and potted plants were given as prices. Each of the guests mentioned above received a beautiful corsage including the unit commander, Mrs. Belts. Recently Mrs. Catherine Stalter and Mrs. Mildred Buettner took their orientation and indoctrination to be volunteer workers at the V. A. hospital May 6 will be open bouse at the V. A. hospital. This will be the national hospital week event. Regular volunteer workers were honored with a tea Wednesday. Those who attended were Mrs. Beltz, Mrs. Ehrsam and Mrs. Helen Hyers. HAPPY HOMEMAKERS CLUB PLACES FIRST Happy Homemakers club of Washington township placed first at the annual home demonstration achievement day at the Decatnr Youth and Community Center, Saturday. Their display was on “Wall Preparation.” Other clubs placed as follows: Second, Gals & Pals from SL Mary’s and Blue Creek Friendship Village on "Fibers & Fabries.” Third was Monroe Setter Homes on table setting and French r oa "Reduce and Stay Reduced.",M- W Friendship of Berne placed fourth OB “Making Noodles.” Fifth was Merrier Mondays from Preble & Kirkland on “Religion In the Home.” All clubs received a ribbon for participating in the exhibits. Judge was Mrs. Elsie Shifferly, home agent from Allen county. R. Nelson Snider spoke to about 125 guests at the afternoon program. Snider, principal of South Side high school in Fort Mtayne spoke on “The Anatomy of Humor.” The home demonstration chorus sang two numbers. "Lullaby” and “By the Bend of the River.” Mrs. Theron Fenstermaker, past county president, honored Mrs. R. C. Hersh with a pin, year, and gavel for her current year of presidency. The bake sale and bazaar held throughout the day cleared about 1170. The proceeds will be used to send 68 Adams county delegates to the Purdue summer conference, June 12-14. HOME DEMONSTRATION WEEK 18 OBSERVED Over seven hundred home demonstration club members in Adams county are observing national home deinostration week through May 5. The week begad with S he annual achievement day Saturday. Another feature of this week will be participation In the Fort Wayne WOWO recognition days for home demonstration women in the trl-state area. Forty-five Adams county delegates will participate Tuesday. The group will broadcast on WOWO at 9 a. m., 11:30, 12:30 p. m.; and 2:30. Tours throughout the day will include Worthman Homes, the Southgate Plaza shopping center; Allen Floor Covering; dinner at the Hobby Ranch House; Rowlands Furniture Store; and Franks department store. Bus service will be provided by the Fort Wayne Transit company. Those going from Adams county are reminded to meet at 7:30 a. m. at the Shell parking lot in Berne; 7:45 at Coppess Corner, and 8 at the Decatur post office. Tours will beover-a4-2<4fr->.jpt —— Homemakers are also encouraged to visit the Leisure Home at Indiana & Michigan Electric Co. in Fort Wayne. Being featured on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of this week are colored kitchens, and demonstrations of electronic cooking. Four demonstrations will be presented each day. The Girl Scout Leaders club will meet in the Boy Scout cabin at Hanna-Nuttman park Thursday from 10 a. m. to 2 p. m. Mrs. Dan Gruss will be hostess to the St. George study club Wednesday evening at 8 o'clock. For 1 transportation, members are asked to contact Mrs. Bill Mansfield or Mrs. Bob Stelgmeyer. The Rainbow for Girls will hold public installation of officers I Thursday evening at 7 o'clock at the Masonic hall. I The Ladies aid society of the Trinity E.U.B. church will meet Thursday evening at 7:30 o'clock at the church. The hostesses will be Mrs. Harry Poling, Mrs. Laura Sapp, and Mrs. Ralph Stevens. All members are urged to attend this meeting at which time election of officers will be held. The Union, Preble. Root and St. Mary’s townships will hold a joint Farm Bureau meeting at the Monmouth high school, Friday. L_ The Adams county roadside council will meet at the public library Tuesday afternoon at 1:30* o’clock. Members are asked to use the north entrance. The Church of God mothers and daughters will have a potluck supper Thursday evening at 6:30 o’clock in the fellowship basement. Following the supper there will be a program in the church. The Woman’s missionary society of the Mt. Zion U. B. church of Bobo will meet at the home of Mrs. Charles Wagner Thursday evening at 7:30 o’clock. Mrs. Dick Ehlnger will entertain So-Cha-Rea Thursday evening at It 39 o'clock, j- * Thursday evening at 8 o’clock the Great Books discussion group will meet at the public library. - The Everready Sunday school class of the Methodist church will meet in the church lounge Thursday evening at 7:30 o’clock. The Youth and Community Center wfH be the scene of the Psi lota XI business meeting Wednesday evening at 8 o’clock. The Lydia Ruth circle of the First Christian church will meet with Mrs. William Teeple of route three, Decatur, Wednesday evening at 7:30 o’clock. Mrs. James Kit- i ehen will be the lesson leader. District four of the Pythian Sisters will hold a convention at North Manchester Wednesday with registration beginning at 12 noon. Several Decatur Pythian Sisters are planning to attend. The Tri Kappa sorority will meet Tuesday evening at 7:30 o’clock at the Youth and Community Center. The Pleasant Grove W.M.A. will meet Thursday at 1 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Gorman Fox.

Stotts, 25, native of that city, who died of an electric shock Sunday when the light bulb on an extension cord he was holding broke at the Indi* anapolis plant of Stark, Wetzel & Company. His body was found in front of boiler he was cleaning by a fireman at the plant, Charles Waterman, 29, who heard him cry out.
