Sees Close Primary Battle In Florida Heavy Vote Likely t To Favor Stevenson WASHINGTON (INS)—A Democrat who knows the state saM today the Florida presidential primary race between Adlai Stevenson and Sen. Bates Kefauver la "close” and will hinge on the site of the total vote. This informant predicted that a heavy vote involving a run-off for Gov. Leroy Collins would probably make Stevenson a winner in the May 29 primary. He forecast that if Collins wins renominatlon in the first Florida primary on May 8 and la not on the May 29 ballot to bring out a heavier Democratic vote, Kefauver would "probably win.” Florida has 28 Democratic national convention votes in 1956. Four years ago Sen. Richard Russell (D-Ga.) won most of them in a similar primary contest with the senator from Tennessee, but neither one won the presidential nomination. It went to Stevenson, who had been in no primaries. Both candidates are campaigning hard in the Sunshine State. Stevenson was to return there today for a one-day appearance before moving to Oregon and California, where his other critical tests with Kefauver are being staged. ( Noted Stage, Screen Actor Dies Today Edward Arnold Dies At California Home HOLLYWOOD (INS) —Veteran stage and screen actor Edward Arnold died today suddenly of a cerebral hemorrhage at his Encino, Cal., home. The 66-year-old actor, famed fob his role of “Mr. President” on radio and for more than 104 major roles in films, succumbed at 2:30 a. m. His son-in-law, Dr. William F. Orlando, was with him when death came. He came to Hollywood in the early '3o's and was under contract for a number of years w’ith MGM studios. One of his most famous roles was that of Diamond Jim Brady in the film which bore that title. , He was active in community affairs and recently the San FerTraTTdo youttr sou nda ti on -dedicated an Edward Arnold chapter in his home community of Encino- His family asked that donations be sent to this organisation in lieu of flowers.
