ICARDI IS (Ceutinuenl From Faga Ont) that subcommittee members discussed the possibility of perjury before Rardl was ever called. Keech noted that when Icardi appeared before the ayj?committee, he had th® choice of contesting guilt, taking the fifth amendment, or persisting In his denials of the crime. 'None of these alternatives, Keech said, could have contributed to any "valid legislative purpose.” The judge made it plain he agreed that the house group had "broad authority” to inquire into the case. But, he said, the house group overstepped that authority when it made a finding of guilt or innocence. GRACE SPEAKS r<‘ontintied o„ . .g*. Five) white gown of lace, satin and taffeta, encrusted with hundreds of pearls and the astonishing number of 800,000 transparent sequins. She hardly bad been seated, with three women and two footmen helping her adjust her skirt, when she clasped Rainier’s hand and held it tightly as the car waited two minutes for the rest of the proceshloq to form behind them and roll down the bill between a lane formed of French Alpine troops. Grace waved slightly to newsreel cameramen while the car halted, but the wind kept tugging at her yeil to which she held a hand occasionally. prace smiled at her subjects who crowded outside the cathedral cheering, waving £ud applauding her and Rainier. PAIR ARRESTED (Copttnutd on Page Flvy) questioning. Today the victims of three attacks in Marion visited the Adams county jail where the two men are being held. The Marion women also identified the men as tiieir attackers- Os the three attacks in Marion, only one couple was actually robbed and raped as they were parked in a Marion "lovers’ lane.” On the other two attacks the thugs did not carry out their threats. Extensive questioning of the two men was conducted al! during the night at the police station. Assisting with the interiogation were police chief James Borders, sheriff Merle Affolder, state police detective Truman Bierie and prosecuting attorney Lewis L. Smith. Ostrander signed a confession describing and admitting the attack on the Decatur couple. ““ Charges of kidnaping, rape and robbery will be filed later today by- prosecutor Smith to Adams circuit court and probably juvenile court tor the minor. It is expected that similar charges will be filed In Grant and Allen counties although the pair will stand trial in the locals court since they were apprehended here. The pair wil be held at the local jail pending arraignment, which will probably be scheduled in the next day or so.' Sheriff Affolder indicated that ire intends to ask the court to authorize special guards at the jail while the two are being held there. Both Affolder and Borders praised each other’s department- for the vigilant work and cooperation which led to the arrest. They both pointed out that, except for the alertness of the patrol cars last night, there probably would have been another attack on Decatur youngsters. BENSON (Continued on Page Five) soil bank legislation that Will attack the surplus problem head on.’* He added: “I do not approve of a permanent floor for the basic commodities at 82 and one-half percent parity, ithout regard to supply-” . The secretary explained that had a soil bank been put into operation on 1956 crops, supplies of the basic crops would have been reduced. If this happened, he added, “the recalculation of the support price would have put these supports in the vicinity of the figures named by the President.” Benson said that once support prices have been announced they can be raised but not lowered. For this reason,, he added: “It is a matter of prudence to announce supports at a conservative level, and raise that level as conditions warrant.” CEASE FIRE IS ■ (Continued on Page Five) t ided to go along with Hammarskjold, but the UN chief refused comment on the disclosure.
