Democrat Hopefuls Meet In Florida Stevenson Meets Senator Kefauver TAMPA, Fla. (INS) — Adlai Stevenson And Sen. Estes Kefauver went their separate ways today after exchanging campaign buttons, handshakes, banter and words denouncing the Eisenhower administration. New salvos against the Republicans were voioed from opposltee sides of Tampa bay Friday night by the two presidential hopefuls tn their respective campaigns to capture Florida's eight Democratic convention delegate votes. Both raised the cry of “special interests.” Stevenson made a bld for Tampa's labor votes by charging the administration, favored big business while ignoring labor. Kefauver bore down on the farm bill controversy and declared the nation would be better off without agriculture secretary Ezra Taft Benson. Stevenson heads to northwest Florida today while Kefauver goes to Miami. The rival presidential candidates met Friday on a school ground near one of the cigar factories both had toured. It was the first time they had met since ' Feb. 5 when they attended the ‘ California Democratic club con- ' tention at Freso. HALLECK SAYS (Continued From Pago One) get busy now and report out a bill , that will bo helpful to the farmi ere and to the country." i Halleck told the GOP newsmen and party leaders that where most segments of the national economy have achieved a healthadjustment from war to peace “agriculture is in trouble . . many farmers of the nation find themselves today in an intolerable cost-price squeese.”, The second district congressman returned to Washington immediately after the luncheon, but there were indications that the IREA, in ah afternoon session, would devote their attention again to the “two Republican parties" problem. One of these GOP “parties” is headed by Governor George' N. Craig, and in recent months. Senator Homer Capehart, once his bitter intraparty foe, now is a warm ally. Capehart is running for reelection. . Indiana’s other senate?. AViftiani E. Jenner, who does not face reelection until 1958, has been the nominal head of the intraparty opposition, but had been leaving the heavy campaign labor up to Lieut. ; Gov. Harold Handley, the biggest burr under the Craig saddle at the moment. However, Senator Jenner was in Indianapolis today and was expected to appear for some sessions of the IREA event which closes tonight with a banquet at which Craig and Capehart are the principal speakers.
