Fort Wayne Central Wins In Triangular Fort Wayne Central won a triangular meet at St. Vincent’s field in Fort Wayne Wednesday afternoon, scoring 89 points. Fort Wayne Centra! Catholic was second with 46 and the Decatur Yellow Jackets third with 22. John Kelso was a triple winner for Central, taking the 100-yard dash, 440-yard run and the low hurdles. Decatur Golf Course Will Open Saturday Decatur golfers received good news today with the announcement by Don Mae Lean that the Decatur golf course would officially open next Saturday. Season tickets will be on sale at the club house and players also can use the course by paying the dally green fee. The leagues will be organized soon and the Decatur tourse will be open seven days a week, it was announced. Prior to today’s announcement there had been some question whether the course would be operated this year, because the usual sale of season tickets had not been, announced. J Today’s announcement by the owner, however, erases the earlier rumors. The course is reported to be in excellent condition fpr this early in the season and workmen will continue today and readying the course. Prize Money Offered For 500-Mile Race HAGERSTOWN, Ind. (INS — Perfect Circle Corp, today posted $2,950 in prize money for the, Indianapolis Speedway 500-mile race. Top prize offered is S4OO to the winning car, with S3OO for second place and S2OO for third. The fastest qualifier will be eligible for a $250 award. Remainder of the prize money will be for the 3£ other drivers who qualify for the race and the mechanic of the pole position car. Phillips Oilers Win Olympic Playoffs KANSAS CITY (INS) —The Phillips 66 Oilers, conquerors of the College 4U Stars, won the ‘Olympic basketball payoffs Wednesday night when the Buchan Bakers of Seattle defeated the Armed Forces team, 82 to 79. — The Oilers victory gives them the right to place five to seven men on the U.S. team in the fourthcoming Olympics. The remainder of the 12-man squad will be chosen from the other three teams. Vince ;Martinez Is Winner Over Diaz MIAMI BEACH, Fla, (INS) — Vince Martinez, fourth-ranked welterweight, gunned today for a shot at champion Johnny Saxton after completely outclassing Miguel Diaz of Cuba in a 10-round nationally elevised boxing bout in Miami Beach. The 26-yeai‘-did boxer from Patterson, N. J., pressed the attack throughout the fight and floored the Cuba champion in the ninth and 10th rounds Wednesday night. Martinez’s manager, Bill Daly, said he would give SIOO,OOO to Saxton for a title fight. > Indiana Launches Campaign On Cancer INDIANAPOLIS CINS) —lndiana has launched its campaign to raise $590,000 of a national goal of $26-million for cancer research in 1956.
