W. K. Dustin. His wife, Sloda Dustin. Galen Gibbons. Those treated at the Salem hospital and released were listed as: Andy B. Collier, husband of Opal, and their other three children —Harold, Wanda and Jimmy. Mrs. Amelia Newby. Salem had a blackout when the tornado felled power lines and the Washington county hospital resorted to emergency lighting for half an hour while caring for the storm injured. The northern Indiana tornadoes wrecked a church and several resort cottages, a number of barns, and felled trees and power lines. Some livestock was killed in these tornadoes but humans miraculously escaped injury. However, one Kentucky housewife, just over the Ohio River at Henderson, was not so fortunate. Mrs. Sudie Staples, of near Henderson, Ky., was killed when a twister picked her up in her rocking chair and carried her through the air, still in her chair. Her body landed about 200 feet from her demolished home, with the rocking chair beside her. INCREASE WATER (Conttnuea from Pag* On*> He pointed out that at the times the river Is high, the flow of water through the Monroe street bridge is too slow and the water backs up in the southern part of the city. This matter is being studied by the council. Another problem brought up at last night’s council meeting concerned sewer trouble on Line street. Kenneth Shell told the council that in that neighborhood one family is using a cistern as a cess pool and that this causes bad odors in the area. Bernard Clark, superintendent of the street and sewer department, was instructed to investigate the matter. ~ . jmiif r,rryris.
