Banned by the AAU because they bad signified their intent - to turn pro were Sihugo Green of Duquesne, Ron Sobieazcayk of I»e Paul, Tom Heinaohn of Holy Cross and Joe Holup of George Washington. Two others. McCey and Darrell Floyd of Furman, also were slated to sit it out. but they were allowed to play when they signed affidavits that they did not plan to turn pro. m 5 I McCoy’s change of heart Sunday again brought up the Olympic question, but national AAU secretary Dan Ferris eaid the affidavit •he signed would, protect the Olympians. , The situation brought forth an angry blast from Abe Saperstein, owner-coach of the Globetrotters, who said he had followed the same 'procedure since 1950 — without AAU objection —of announcing personnel of his all-star team but ; not actually signing them’ to contracts until after the East- West game. Saperstein called AAU officials **a collection of muttonheads who interpret their rules to suit their' own wishes." He said: "It is a disgraceful thing for any organisation interested in the welfare of young athletes to take away from them, without warning, the privilege of participating in a charity content fojr under-privileg-ed children for which they donate their services.”
