Authorities Seeking Granary Blast Cause Three Bodies Are Recovered Thursday PHILADELPHIA (INS) —AuthI orities today sought to determine the ■ exact trigger that set off a *3.500,000 blast Wednesday night at a west Philadelphia granary in which three persons died and 84 were injured. The devastation scene extended for 10 blocks. The bodies of Arthur Harrell, 35. Newfield, N. J., and Byron Whilden, 31, Dorchester, N. J., were recovered Thursday in the wreckage of the Tidewater Mill and Elevator Co. Both were truck drivers. Still missing is Edward B. Johnson, 39, an employe of the granary. As the huge task of clearing up the ruins got underway, authorities sought to learn the blast’s origin. Fire Marshal William j. Eckles said the main cause was grain dust but added “something has to ignite it as a rule.” So far probers have determined two possible trigger sources. One was an attempt to light the pilot of a grain dryer on the first floor* The other was repair work under way on a grain elevator. Walter S. Pytko, commissioner •f licenses and inspections, said his department cited Tidewater for two fire law violations last fall but emphasized that there was no indication that either violation had a role in the explo> sion. Damage to the grain elevator itself was set at $1,000,000, Damage to the publishing plant of the Philadelphia Evening Bulletin, across the street, was set at $500,000 and to the Railway Ex--press- Agency, next dobr torffir elevator, $250,000. Drexel Institute nearby reported damage of at least $300,000. Tallahassee — Florida gains about 130*000 new immigrant residents each normal year. i ■ Trade in a Good Town — Decatur.
