I Niagara Upset By St. Francis In Invitational NEW YORK (INS) — Top-seed-ed Dayton makes its belated bow in the national invitation basketball tournament tonight at Madison Square Garden, meeting crippled Xavier in a quarter-final game. } ' - Third-ranked St. Joseph's of ’ Philadelphia plays Seton Hall in the night's other game, with the winners scheduled to join unheralded St. Francis of Brooklyn and second-seeded Louisville in Thursday's semi-finals. St. Francis engineered the biggest upset of the tournament to date when substitute George Fox, a 6-3 junior,/'fired a short jump shot.through Mw'Ttoop in the last second of an overtime period Monday night to edge fourth-seeded Niagara, 74 to 12. Louisville convinced a sparse crowd of 6,250 —held down by New York's heavy snowfall — that it will take a lot of beating as it eliminated defending champion Duquesne. 84 to 72. Louisville, now sporting a 24 : 3 record, will play the St. Joseph’sSeton Hall winner in one semifinal. while St Francis (21-2) goes ' against the Dayton-Xavier victor. The Cardinals used almost complete control of the backboards to subdue the short and under-man-ned Dukes —whose bld was concentrated almost solely on the willing shoulders of All-American Sihugo Green. Playing the entire second half with four fouls. Green managed to score 24 points, but it wasn't enough. Led by 6-8 Charley Tyra. Jim Morgan and Phil Stalling, Louisville sprinted to a 16-to-6 lead in the first five minutes and a 42-to--38 halftime advantage. Duquesne pulled within one point, 56 to 55. in the second half, but the Cardinals soon widened the gap again Displaying a well-balanced attack, Tyra had 17 points. Morgan 16. Jerry Moretnan 15 and Rollins 14. St. Francis controlled the ball for nearly three-and-a-half minutes of the overtime period before Fox finally popped in the winning twopointer just as the buzzer sounded Jim Maloney of Niagara forced it into overtime with a jump shot from the edge of the foul circle, tying it at 72-all, in the final two seconds after St. Francis had dissipated an eight-point lead. The Terriers played a ragged game, being on the short end of a 44-to-37 halftime score, coming back to take an • apparently safe advantage and then throwing it away. Key factor in their second half resurgence was the play of Fox, who came off the bench to
