We would also like to express gratitude to Ed Jaberg who did such a fine job during Mrs. Andrews’ absence. — M. H. 8. — Basketball had one final fling at Monmouth tor this season last Friday evening. The event was the usual climax to a season of baaket-ball—-the class tourney. In the first game the juniors defeated the sophomores, and in the next game t the seniors walloped the freshmen. Finally the juniors and the i seniors met in the last game, and it proved to be quite a match. The seniors won the ball game in the last minute of playing time, and became the school champions. seniors and? to all of the classes tor doing so well! — M. H. 8. — The semi-final games at the Coliseum Saturday were enjoyed by several members of the varsity basketball team. Then on Sunday afternoon the coaches, first and second team players, student managers and the cheerleaders attended the Piston basketball game also to the Coliseum. ' — M. H. S. — The parent and family life education study group met last Monday evening with Mrs. Vera Owens presenting the topic tor discussion, "Kindling the Creative Spark." The devotions were read by Mrs. Leo King, Sr., and hostesses tor the evening were Mrs. Paul Oallmier, Mrs. George Sooner, and Mrs. Clarence Martin. — M H. 8. - - The Monmouth band enjoyed an afternoon off last Veek when the members went to the Adams theater in Decatur tor the showing of the "Benny Goodman Story.” Nearly 20 students accompanied by Darrell Gerig attended the movie and they were literally the envy of the entire school. These are the rewards of being a musician.
This Thursday evening a very interesting basketball game will be held in the school gymnasium. The basketball coaches from Adams county will battle the coaches from Wells county. The public is invited to the exhibition and M. H. 8. feels sure that the event will be very entertaining to say the least. , ".w. M, H. 8. The month of March nas always been a time for recognising achievements in various academic fields. Two years ago Lowell Belneke, Clint Fuelling and Dave Beery won the fight of competing in the state contests for algebra and geometry. At this time Lowell received a third place medal in algebra. Last year Lowell and Dave again went to the state contests along with Barbara Carr who qualified to take the state English exam. Lowell again brought back the honors to M. H. 8. by this time receiving a second place medal In geometry. This year Monmouth will again be represented at the regional testing center in Bluffton- Tlobert Beiheke and' Donald Fuelling will take the algebra test, Clint Fuelling and Dave Beery the comprehensive math test, Beverly Stevens and Carolyn Hoffman the geometry test and Barbara Carr, Shirley Bleeke, and two juniors to be selected later

for the English exam. Good luck, students, and we certainly hope that M. H. S. will again be privileged to take part in the state tests at Indiana University. i — M. H. S. — Participants in baseball, basketball, cross country, and track during the year were honored at the annual P.T.A. athletic recognition night Tuesday evening. The evening began with a grand feast featuring dishes brought by all the families who attended. The toastmaster tor the evening was M.H.S/s jovial social studies teacher, John Rosier, and the devotions were read by the Rev. Ot|o Busse of Preble. The guest speaker tor the evening was Eldy Lunquist, the sports director of Radio station W.T.R.C. at Elkhart. Other speakers tor the evening were Mr. Merriman, the M.H.S. trustee, Mr, Jones, principal, Mr. Wisehart, the assistant coach, and coach "Porky” Holt. At this time ‘ Porky” awarded two individual basketball trophies, and he presented stars to the co-captains of the basketball squad, Norb Witte and Stew Schnepf. Everyone had a really grand time, and would like to thank the P.T.A. and everyone associated with it for making the wonderful evening possible. t — M. H. 8. — The junior home economics
class, which has recently been studying interior decorating and home furnishings, was a guest of the Gerber Furniture company In Bluffton last Monday morning. The girls were accompanied by Mrs, Geraldine Herderhorst and were shown by a guide the various steps in which furniture is constructed and upholstered. The class was also introduced to various styles of furniture and floor coverings. Before returning to M.H.S., the girls enjoyed a quick lunch at the popular Dutch Mill just north of Bluffton. * " f — M. H. 8. — Several members of the varsity basketball squad relived the regional basketball games last Monday evening. Mr. Werling played for the boys the Jape recordings which he made of the regional games in Ft. Wayne, and everyone feels (Certain that the event brought back eotne of the excitement which was felt during our last two games of “Hoosier Hysteria'’ for this season. — M. H. S. — The student council would like to ask everyone to reserve Friday evening March 23, for another dance which will again be held in the school auditorium. The Rhythm Rascals will furnish the music and the admission will be 35 cents per person. Come on,

S. - Fifth and sixth graders worked hard last week to fix up a cheer basket for Johnnie Noll, who was hospitalized with rheumatic fever. Johnnie is back home now but these things take a lot of time so it will probably be quite a while before he is back in school. If you would like to send Johnnie a card his address is Route 6, Decatur. p. m. H. 8. — Track season has come into being and the boys are really entering into it. The first meet will be with Adams Central and Jefferson March 30. The fans here at Pleasant Mills are anxiously awaiting this first meet. — P M. H- 8. — i Fourteen seniors from Pleasant i Mills attended ‘‘Senior Night,” sponsored bg. the Adams county j rural youth organization at the ; Youth Center last Thursday night. | Seniors from schools all over the county were Invited to this meeting. Pleasant Mills seniors have all agreed that Thursday night Was a lot of fun. in fact, so much fun that some of the seniors joined | thjs rural youth group organiza-; tion. ‘ — P. M. H. 8.
