tourneys of the ISHAA 4*5 th annual baskethall show. New Albany heads the offensive units as it takes an average per game production of 80.7 points to the Bloomington semUinai and that’s tops for the 16 survivors. ’ As usual, however, the Bulldogs are keen on shooting but lackadaisical in stopping so although its output is eight points better than either Logansport or Crlspus Attacks, is average vicory margin is three points below these front runners. Unbeaten, defending state champion Attacks has stuffed 722 points per game through the nets while allowing 46 for a 26.2 point margin of victory. Logansport shows 733 and 47.2 for a 26.1 average margin. At the other end ot the scale is Gary Forebel with 62.8 in favor and 57.6 against for a five-point spread and Wabash at 644 and 586 -for 58. ... ■ Fortunately the haves are playing the haves and the have note are playing the have nots for the most part in Saturday's games. Wabash's 5.8 spread for instance stacks not unfavorably against the 10 point spread South has built up at Fort Wayne. And at Lafayette, New Ross with 7-8 is only a few points better than Gary in a firstround game. Gerstmeyer of Terre Haute may be in the worst shape with 8.9 working against Jasper’s 16.4Not much better off in respect to margins is princeton also at Bloomington with 12.8 against New Albany’s 23- However Princeton has been much more consistent than its second game opponent. Otherwise the field is rather evenly matched. At Fort Wayne Marion has been nipping foes at a 19.4 point clip which isn’t insurmountably better than Elkhart's 13 point working margin. Rounding out the Lafayette show starting with the New Ross-Froebel battle is Logansport’s 26 1 and Lafayette’s ai’f. And incidentally Jeff has the top defensive mark of 39 5. - - _ Indianapolis has Crispus Attacks with a 26.2 margin for error workin gslightly in its favor over Connersville spread to 211 and hoping for another upset. Muncie Central hopes the upset occurs at night with the Bearcats atoning for the semi-final loss o Attacks last year. But first Munice wtM- have to~convinee Scottsburg

To Send All-Star Team Into Olympics NEW YORK (INS) — The United States will send the “greatest basketball team th history?’ to meet the Olympic challenge of (Russia next November at Melbourne. " The U. S. Olympic basketball committee Thursday that such was its intention in hand-picking a team of alhstars rather than sending a single college team as in previous Olympics Committee chairman Col. Harry D. Henshel confirmed that four teams — the College All-Stars, an armed forces delegation and the ehampion and runnerup in the national AAU tournament — will play a round-robin tournament in Kansas City April 2-3.4, The winner of this tourney will qualify five to seven players for the 12>-man Olympic squad, the balance of which will be drawn from the three losing teams. All four teams will consist of 14 men. And while the final Olympic team is reduced to 12, the committee will select close to ten others as alternates. The U.S. has won all three Olympic basketball championships in 1996, 1948 and 1952*U- without losing a single game. But many foreign teams have made amazing progress in recent years and the Americans are in for a severe teat. Only a month after the U.S. had walloped Russia in a preliminary round, 86 to 58, in 1952 (the Soviets’ first year in the Olympics), 6-foot-5 star Korkiia and his teammates almost spilled the Americans with their quickly adopted possession style in the final game. Clyde Lovellette and Co. won by only 36 to 25. In the recent Pan - American games, Argentina upset the U.S. only to lose to an even stronger Brasil team. — > The Olympic squad, to be managed by James Coogan of New Haven. Conn., and coached by the winner in the Kansas City playoffs, will tune up for the Olympics with a series of coast-to-coast exhibition games. The Olympians will assemble at Wright-Patterson air base
