newspapers, during a two-and-a-half hour interview in Manila on Monday. ’ . The answers were radioed to Tokyo, where Hearst will be received by the emperor of Japan on Friday., " • Urging greater application of Pacific charter principles, Magsaysay said: “A program of information should well be one of the important activities of SRATO. Too many Asians today, for example, confuse world-communism as it exists with the theoretical concept of a socialistic way of life. "To few realise tjf.t this Ideological camouflage conceals predatory and unscrupulous materialism. A thorough exposure of this fraud would help Aslans to recugnize their enemies and resist them.” Asked what could be done to implement the Pacific charter and whether he would favor the creation of a permanent council to encourage the spirit of freedom In Asia and combat the subversive influences of communism. Magsaysay said: “The Manila pact has provided for the necessary mechanism to achieve its objectives which are based on the principles enunciated in the Pacific charter. “For this purpose the pact members have established a council composed of the foreign ministers of the member states. m “On this body should property devolve the work envisaged tor a permanent Pacific charter council. However, I believe in giving greater permanency to the council than we now have under the pact to enable it to function more effectively.” In conclusion, the Philippines president said he is looking forward “with great eagerness to taking advantage of the standing invitation so kindly extended me by President Elsenhower” to visit the United States.
