the class tournsy. Last week, when the initial battles were played, the seniors conquered the juniors and the sophomores beat the freshmen by scores of 48-38 and 27-19, respectively. The championship battle will be fought tomorrow noon. — A. C. H. 8. — But athletics are still flying high! In a J recent “Coach’s Comment’’, Coach Arnold foresaw “voir leyball and track are the topics of conversation." Volleyball playoffs will come in about a month, while statistics reviewing last
year's track season have been posted on the hall bulletin board. Both varsity and reserve track meets are planned by Mr. Arnold, "In order to give a greater number of boys a chance to participate." — A. C. H. envelopes, name cards, and dinner napkins. For long letters, short notes, they reply that they’ve got it! Last week's class meeting saw the “sophs” organise into teams with the help of sponsors Doyle Collier and Don Arnold. ** A C- H. 8. — “How to Make Enlargements," twenty more slides from Eastman Kodak, will be shown to the Camera Club’s shutterbugs tomorrow. It’s meant to spark enthusiasm among the more inexperienced members for blowing up pictures for themselves, and, too, for the bulletin board displays. — A. C. H. 8. — No longer do student-librarians have to search for original ideas in the way of bookcase displays! The new bulletin board has all the room they need for a vastly different selection of schemes to spotlight types of books for suggested reading. Made by the industrial arts boys, the plywood frame was bought out of money collected in fines over the past two years. — A. C. H. S. ,<{‘‘What makes a room attractive ?” is asked by the high school art class* bulletin board display. Pictured are several types of rooms, framed against colored construction paper, which makes them stand out well on the unusual black surface. Model houses are being made by the boys in this hquse planning class, while everyone makes his own floor plan. The whole work chapter will be climaxed next month, when the class, with instructor Marcia Ruddick, will take an ail-day field trip to Indianapolis. — A. C. H. S. — During the past couple of weeks the shorthand class of juniors and seniors have been striving again for speed, taking dictation from the set of records made by the Gregg company. While they are racing the discs, though, they know that the papers handed in will be returned in the near, unpredictable future, for transcription. Readable shorthand at 70 to 80 words per minute doesn’t come too easily, they’ve learned! To meet the standards, transcription accuracy of over 90 per cent is required by Instructor Don Arnold. — A. C. H. S. — New FFA officers tor. 1956-1957 were elected during last Friday’s club meeting with Martin Watson, sponsor. The only club members that got together that day, chapter. members, chose Phil Moser for their president, Richard Hirschy, vice president, Wayne Byerly and Mike Lehman, reporters, Emanuel Gerber, treasurer, Don Ray, secretary, and Jerry Gerber, sentinel. Only sweet, sour, bitter, and salty things could be distinguished when several "-doubting Thomases’’ were blindfolded and had their noses held w'hile taking the test. Among the articles tried in the experiment were bitter chocolate, powdered sugar, beans, salt, pickles, olives, and tomatoes. — A. C. H. Probably one of the most exclusive furniture factories In the country, Dunbar’s turns oht many products on special order. Their own fabrics department, for instance, contains almost any kind of cloth desirable on a beautiful piece of furniture. Several alumni of the Central industrial arts department wdrk there now. — A. C. H. S. — About 200 Centralites turned out at Bell’s for the annual all-school skating party sponsored by the junior class last Monday. It took three buses, driven by Bud Fisher, Forest Springer and Leroy Lehman. to hold the majority of the skaters out for a good time. Under the decision made by the student council last fall, many of the party-goers drove to the rink themselves. — A. C. H.
