Michigan City Top Offensive Team In Meets INDIANAPOLIS (INS) — Michigan City, Seymour and New Albany Are the top offensive powers as the 64 sectional winners prepare for Saturday’s 16 regional high school basketball tourneys. Michigan City practiced what defending champion Crispns Attacks taught It In a regular season 123-53 slaughter for MC now leads the pack With 844 points in four games. That 86 point average is roughly four better than New Albany’s 827 points far 81.8 or Seymour's 326 for 81.5. Attacks has run into tough defensive measures and has been held to 68.3 per game in four times out. Milan’s Indians, 1954 state champs, are bottom braves on the scoring totem pole in both total points scored, 140, and total points allowed, 97. That's for three games, however, and the Milan opponents’ average of 32.3 is second to the 31.8 per game allowed by Winamac in four games. - - - - Jeffersonville and Elkhart are the most evenly balanced regionale statistically. Jeffersonville boasts Seymour and New Albany, slight favorites to battle for the title at night, plus Providence, a newcomer to sectional championship, with a 35.3 point peg game average And Mitchell’s southeastern kings with a 77 point average. Their winning margins has been: Seymour 33.7 vs Providence 25.3; and Mitchell 29 vs New Albany 25.8. Elkhart's four regional contenders are under 20 in their point spread over foes: Lapaz 10.5 per game margin of victory vs Elkhart 14.4; and South Bend Central 18.8 vs Warsaw 11.2. In addition to Seymour, Southport’S South Central Conference champions also cleared the sectional with a 39-plus winning margin taking three opponents out on a 34.3 margin. Greencastle’s Wabash Valley winners had an even 30-point margin and Logansport missed the mark with 29.5. Narrowest squeezes were drained out of the 64 meetings by Jackson township, a new one, and Covington, each at 3.3, and Terre Haute Gerstmeyer (watch these Cats in ’57) and Wlncherifor with JI 4-ittotiagnning Jefferson township, with 4.2 separating it from catastrophe, and Danville with 4.7 for breathing room, also fell below the 5-point working margin. Attacks, with a new state consecutive winning streak of 39, has peppered the nets at a 68.3 per game average and allowed only 47.3 points above their outstretched fingertips for a 22-point per game margin. r Most formidable foe blocking the path to Indiana’s first undefeated state championship is Anderson, whose Redskins put in a better scoring figure than Attacks. 69.7, but allowed more points (59) to end with a 10.7 mark—still good enough to win ball games.
