Spring Barrow Show Opened At Capital To Nome Champion Carcass Saturday INDIANAPOLIS (INS) — The annuel Hoosier spring barrow show is in recess today until Saturday when the grand champion carcass is to be selected. William G. Nash & Sons, of Sharpsville, displayed the winning barrow in the first phase of the show, held Tuesday at the Indiana state fairgrounds. A 216-pound Hampshire barrow, owned by the Nashs, won its breed competition and went on to defeat all other breed winners to be named the grand champion. The Nashes also won the reserve' champion get of sire competition with their Hampshire entry. The Nashes also displayed the grand championship pen of three barrows, after this entry also won in the breed competition, thus making the Sharpsville area farmers the outstanding family of the show. Some 733 hogs were entered by 148 owners in the seventh annual show, in which 43 counties were represented. A }44 • pound Berkshire hog shown by Emmett Wise, of Noblesville, won the reserve barrow grand championship, and Wise’s entry of three Berkshire barrows also won the reserve grand championship In the pen-of-three class. Other single barrow breed champions. in addition to Berkshire and Hampshire, were entered by: Chester White — John Rigsbeer, Arlington, champions, and Purdue Experimental Farm, Lafayette,-re-serve Duroc —- W. R. Orr, Tipton, champion, and Laddie Pierson, Bridgeport, reserve. Poland China — John L. Fox, Shelbyville, both champion and reserve. ■ > . „ Spotted Poland China —< Cottonwood Farm, R. R. 13, Indianapolis, both. Tam worth — (Russell Schenck, Waynetown, champion, and Charles E. Stevenson A Son, Greensburg, reserve. . Yorkshire —- Nancy Murphy, R. R. 7, Indianapolis, both. All other hogs — J. R. Reps. Columbus, champion, and Conner Prairie Farm, Noblesville, reserve. Fox also displayed the grand champion get of sire. Wise had the grand champion truckload entry of Berkshire*, and the reserve grand champion truckload. Hampshires, were exhibited by L U Stewart & Son, of Frankfort. The Hoosier spring barrow show is spswewi by Purdue University, Indiana swine breeders association and Kingan & Company, Indianapolis meat packing firm. Tjie carcass phase of the show Saturday is to be held at the Kingan plant.
