"VIRGIL BARKLEY (left) of MonroeviHe was recently proclaimed county corn growing champion at A banquet held at Indianapolis in honor of Indiana corn growing champions. His yield of 127.47 bushels per acre was the top yield in Adams county in the 1955 national selected five acre DeKalb corn growing' contest. Unable to attend the banquet was runner-up winner Rollie M. Barkley, also of Monroeville, with a yield of 118.83 bushels per acre. Third place winner was Francis Geimer (center) of Decatur with a yield of 117.95 bushels per acre. Loren Barkley (right) of Monroeville took fourth place honors with a yield of 116.19 bushels per acre.
