Daring Petition Is Planned By Graham Airplane Slayer To Drop Insanity PleaDENVER (INS) — John Gilbert Graham, accused of planting a bomb aboard a United Air Lines Mainliner wh|c)r killed his mother and 43 other persons, was scheduled to appear in district court today with a daring petition. Through his attorney, colorful Denver lawyer John Gibbons, Graham asked District Judge Joseph M. McDonald to drop his plea of innocent by reason of insanity to the specific charge of murdering his mother, Mrs. Daisie E. King. This means Graham is willing to let a jury decide only if he is innocent or guilty to the charge he planted dynamite in hia mother's luggage last Nov. 1, causing her death and those of the other persons aboard the ill-fated mainliner. Graham waived his rights to a jury trial on whether or not he was sane on the night the plane was blown to bits over a Longmont .Colo., sugar beet field. Could he have convinced a jury he was insane, he would have been committed to the Colorado state hospital at Pueblo until "cured.’’ But should he lose his daring gamble by by-passing the sanity phase of his trial, he could be sent to the lethal gas chamber at the Colorado state prison in Canon City. Four-Day Week Seen For 1961 LINCOLN, Neb., (INS) — A 32hour work week and a three-day weekend will be the rule rather than the exception iii America tn 1961, according to Dr. David Wendt, former Science Education Director for UNESCO. The noted author and nuclear scientist predicts the shorter work week will result from automation in the office and factory. Dr. Wendt believes the increased amount of leisure will cause a new boom in recreation, with more Americans spending more money for sporting goods,-. automobiles and real estate. “The age of materialism is about over,” he adds, and the new interest in leisure activities will be creative. The scientist also predicts that life expectancy in this country will be 80 years by 1966. Today’s children, he adds, “must be educated tip live part of their lives in the 21st Century” Sound Sleep LONDON (INS) — A man found flopped on a seat when a trolley car arrived at its terminus was rushed to the hospital. Then he opened his eyes and said: “I’m okay — I was just asleep. I work nights.”
