Hammond Noll Chief Tourney Upset Victim ' INtMANAPOLIS (INS) — The annual month-long fever known as Indiana's high school basketball tourney has eaten 148 teams off the original starting field. (James at 53 sectional centers Wednesday afternoon and evening reduced the original band of 742 hopefuls to 594 teams-many of ■whom will be sidelined by the time action finishes at all $4 sectional centers tonight. Two of the major threats to the title of unbeaten defending state champion Crispus Attacks were sidelined in Wednesday action Hammond high, a threat in its ©wn right, disposed of city-rival Hammond Noll, 68-58. Since an upset rightfully has ben described as a victory unexpected even by the mothers of the players, this can rate only as a mild surprise. ? ABC Revenue FoV Year .17 Millions $17,000 Totol Is Received By County INDIANAPOLIS (INS) —Chairman Walter P. Weyland of the Indiana alcoholic beverage commissiop reported today that revenue collected from alcoholic beverages in 1955 totaled $17,310,222.46. He said the total revenue war equivalent to the amount that would have been raised by a 29 cent general property tax levy. For the first time in 1955, cities and towns got a bigger hunk of the ABC collections, thanks to a law passed by the last general assembly in response to demands from municipalities for financial aid. Weyland said that the 1955 law brought $2,677,965.59 to incorpor ated cities and towns on a per capita basis and in the future would net the municipalities about three miUion dollars annually. — This sum- was distributed by the Indiana auditor’s otice. In addition, $2,113,510.96 representing two-thirds of the license fees paid the ABC by local retailers and dealers, went to cities and towns. The remaining one-third of these fees ($1,056,760.04) was turned ovep to the state superintendent of public instruction for use in paying schopl teachers’ salaries.

Jobless Pay Claims Below 1955 Figures Jobless Pay Claims Are 10 Percent Lower INDIANAPOLIS (INS) — The Indiana employment security division today reported unemployment claims are running about 10 per cent under the year-ago level. Director William C. Stalnaker said the 42,036 total claims last were just under the total for the week before. He said both small, scattered layoffs and recalls to work were evident as some industries slowed production and others increased. Stalnaker further added that fewer persons were laid off than were laid oft the week before and that the number of claims from newly unemployed workers was down 850 to 5,389 from 6,247 the previous week. An even smaller decrease was noted in continued claims' which numbered 34,405 last week compared to 34.465 the week before.
