Sectional Will Open Wednesday Afternoon At AdamskCentral Gym
Adams county's nine high school basketball teams, their preparations completed for the annual sectional tourney, settled back nervously today to await' Indiana’s biggest sports attraction, which gets underway at 1:15 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the Adams Central gym.

The Monmouth Eagles, section a' champions for the past three years, will put their crown on the block in Wednesday’s opener, meeting the Hertford Gorillas in the tourney lid-lifter. Another good battle is in prospect at Wednesday’s second game,
With the Pleasant Mills Spartans battling the Geneva Cardinals at 2:30 p. in. ' Adams Central, host school for the .second year, will send v Its Greyhounds Into action in the single Wednesday night game, taking on the winner of the Mon-mouth-Hartford clash at 7:30 o’clock. Wednesday night’s encounter will conclude play in the upper bracket, with the winners of the Pleasant Mills-Geneva game and the Wednesday night encounter moving into the first semi-final battle Saturday afternoon at 1 o’clock. The lower bracket teams will at 8:15 p. m. The Thursday night to the second semi-fin-al game lineup. The Jefferson Warriors will meet the Decatur Catholic Commodores in Thursday night’s opener at 7 o’clock, followed by the. battle between ttys Decatur Yellow Jackets and the Berne Bears at 8:15 p. m. The Thirsday night winners will tangle in the second semi-final at 2:15 p. m. Saturday. There will’be no games in the Adams Central sectional Friday, with the off day devoted to distribution and sale of tickets to the four schools still in the running after Wednesday and Thursday’s preliminary rounds. Tickets for the Saturday sessions will be priced at >l, with single session tickets, if any are available, on sale at the gym for 65 cents. Doors to the gym will open one hour before starting time of the first game of each session. Officials for all games will be Lewis Goshert and Merle Shively, both of Warsaw. The entire tourney will be broadcast over radio station WGL, Fort Wayne, with Len Davis at the microphone. - Fans unable to attend the games or listen by radio may obtain up to the minute scores by telephone to the Decatur Daily Democrat. A special phone has been installed at the press box at the Adams Central gym. also in this office, and scores will be called in at the end of each quarter. Wednesday > afternoon, scores may be obtained by dialing the regular Democrat numbet, 3-2121. Junior High Wins Annual City Series Decatur Junior high retained the city grade school championship Monday night, defeating fit. Joseph. 35-18, In the third and final game of the annual series, played at the Decatur high school gym., Neither team scored a field goal ijn the first quarter, which closed With Junior high in the lead, 3-2. Junior high increased its lead to 14-9 at the half, 25-13 at the third period. Reidenbach paced winners with 14 points on five field goals and four free throws. Gross tallied seven points and D. Baker six for St. Joseph. They were the only players to hit from the field for the losers. ALL TICKETS SOLD The Rev. Robert Content, athletic director of the Decatur Catholic high school, today announced that all tickets allotted to the school for the Thursday night session of ths sectional tourney have been sold, and no more are available at the school. APPEARS SELLOUT At 2 o’clock this afternoon, John O. Reed, Adams Central principal and tourney manager, stated that Adams Central, Monmouth, Geneva and Hartford had sold all their tickets for the Wednesday sessions. No report had been received fronf Pleasant Mills but It was thought likely all tickets would be sold there, meaning that no tickets will be available at the Adams Central gym either Wednesday afternoon or night. John Flickinger To Head Little League John Flickinger, assistant man ager of the Decatur General Electric plant, was elected president of the Decatur Little League at the annual organization meeting of the group, held Monday night at the Elks home. Chosen as vice presidents were Chester Kleinknight, Gene Rydell. who served as president during the past year, and Dr. Joe E. Mor ris. James J. Strickler, Jr., was re elected secretary, with Arthui Burris as assistant A secretary. Strickler also serves as official scorekeepcr tor the league, a position which he has filled since the league's inception. Norman Steury was elected treasurer, with Al Beavers and William Lose, Jr,, as assistant treasurers. John Kable, Ray Lehman and Ed Kauffman were elected as league player agents. The treasurer's report for the 1955 season showed contributions of 12,472.80 from 74 sponsors of the league, and expenditures of *2,372.53, leaving a league balance of *135.19. The new officers set a financial goal for this season at 32,000. The to obtain this .quota from sponsors and other plans for the new season will be outlined at an early meeting of the, new league officials and managing personnel. Adams Central Teams Win Over Lancaster Adams Central junior_JUgh and freshman teams scored a pair of victories over Lancaster Central last week. The junior high won, 43-29, and the freshmen, 35-31. For the junior high, Hart and Foreman were the top scorers, for the freshmen, Baumgartner with 15, Hyerly with 10 and Habegger with seven were the leaders.
