The defending state champions of Crispus Attacks carry a 20-0 mark to the wire against a so-so Frankfort squad that should provide the Tigert with their 21st victim FridayThat would make Crispus Attacks an odds on favorite to become the first team in state history to run all the way home without adefeat Two other teams could throw up serious challenges to the Tigers right to be the first unbeaten state champion. Both Hammond Noll and Missisainewa are working on perfect records and could gather with Attucks in the final foursome at Butler a month from now. Noll is 12-0 and closing against Gary ToJleston, Thursday, and Mississinewa la 18-0 with two home games to go-Swaysee, on Wednesday. and Hagerstown, Friday. These three have shown signs of life but have folded badly before more experienced teams at times- • Attacks, of course, may not get out of town- Tech poses the most serious apparent threat to the Tigers’ title aspirations. Tech closes ■with Logansport, a Lafayette area trouble-maker, Friday. Lafayette will have Its hands full battling a replay of the Christmas fc how against HemtnOnd- Hammond has! been Improving and may eatch Noll in a weak moment while Lafayette has 'been 'disproving. Elkhart's occasionally bright burning Blue Blasers are engaged with a South Ben<f Central team said to be better than the 1953 South “Send title teamKokomo, another pretender to the Fort Wayne throne, tries hapless New Castle on for sise, Friday- .. . Muncie Central (could it catch Attacks in the semis?) will close one of its rare losing seasons Friday against Marion. Muncie is 8-11 and a victory won’t bring the Cats up to the .500 markAnother threat to Attacks title plans can be found in county-foe Southport, now running 18-2 and scheduled against Manual in a closer Friday. Anderson and Richmond, two more barriers to Attucks title march, collide head-on Friday for what may be the North Central Conference title scrap. And in Fort Wayne. Central closes Saturday with Concordia; South, returning to life, goes against Central Catholic. Friday, and North ends with South Bend Adams, Fridayin compiling its 2<rth straight win of the season Saturday Crispus Attucks also set a'new scoring record- Oscar Robertson of the defending champs accounted for 62 points to set a new all-time high school basketball scoring record.
